From Megyn Kelly’s program “America Live” on Wednesday… Can you spot the Fox News FAIL?

Really, Fox News? There’s just no excuse for this… none.

Fox News is shameless in misinforming its viewers into believing that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan should recuse herself from the case involving the constitutionality of a provision of the Affordable Care Act. In this case, they’ve been caught blatantly making up part of the U.S. Constitution to help make their case…

Fox News Fabricates Parts of U.S. Constitution

Three glaring problems with this argument: The Constitution has no Article 28, has no Section 144, and does not contain the language quoted.

The Constitution actually contains seven articles, none of which have more than 10 sections. It also has 27 amendments, none of which contain anywhere near 144 sections.

The language Fox quoted from actually comes from a statute passed by Congress, Title 28 of the U.S. Code, Section 455. But that’s the very statute legal ethicists have analyzed in finding that Kagan does not need to recuse herself because of the email.

Obviously, part of the issue is that there’s a pretty major typo, but it goes well beyond that into the non-existent fact-checking.

On Fox News’ Facebook page, a post has been removed… Why? Because it fanned the flames of ignorance and hate against Atheists, who subsequently received death threats numbering in the hundreds or thousands… All because Blair Scott, Communications Director for American Atheists, appeared on the Fox News program America Live with Megyn Kelly late last month to discuss his complaint about the so-called “9/11 Cross.”

Stay classy Fox News fans!

On a positive note, Fox News did remove the post and comments, issuing this statement:

“We make every attempt to keep our Facebook page as safe as possible. And we take immediate steps to remove all hateful and dangerous language.”

Unfortunately, the damage was done, captured and shared across the web… here are some screen shots:

This is low, even for Fox News… Fox Nation’s article with the headline “Obama’s Hip-Hop BBQ Didn’t Create Jobs,” features pictures of former NBA star Charles Barkley, President Obama, actor/comedian Chris Rock and Jay-Z, the only one who could be considered a hip-hop artist of the four. Also note that Jay-Z didn’t perform at the event, but was rather a guest.

Executive Vice President Bill Shine issued a lame statement about Politico mentioning hip hop, therefore it’s somehow reasonable for Fox News to use such an ignorant headline.

BILL SHINE: “We used the hip-hop reference per Politico’s Playbook story this morning which stated ‘Also present: Chicago pals, law-school friends, donors–and lots of kids of friends, who stole the show by doing dance routines to the hip-hop songs, in the center of the East Room.’”

Sorry, Bill. That’s no excuse. Kids dancing does not a “Hip Hop BBQ” make.

Also note that the headline mentioned the BBQ not creating jobs… Out of the entire article on Fox Nation, there is one quote included, entirely off topic of the rest of the article: “‘The White House doesn’t create jobs.’ — Jay Carney” It’s unclear why they threw that jab in there… oh, wait, it’s Fox Nation and that’s what they do…

On July 20, the Department of Education hosted an event called “Let’s Read! Let’s Move!” Children were given a choice of books to take home, one of which featured the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants… Fox & Friends jumped on this, spouting nonsense and falsehoods, also playing a clip of video from a SpongeBob cartoon that they said was aired at the event – The cartoon features the character Mr. Krabs saying, “Thanks to global warming, the temperature will soon go through the roof, and we’ll have an endless summer.”

CARLSON: “SpongeBob is talking a lot about global warming, and he’s only looking at it from one point of view”

CARLSON: “The government agency showed kids this cartoon and handed out books that blame man for global warming, but they did not tell kids that that is actually a disputed fact. Oops.”

DOOCY: “Clearly Nickelodeon is pushing a global warming agenda, and while there’s no disputing the fact that the earth is getting a little warmer, the big question is, is it man made, or is it just one of those gigantic climactic phases that we’re going [through]? … For a while we’re cold and then we get warmer and then we get colder and warmer, which one is it? There’s science on both sides. There are a lot of scientists who say, ‘It’s this,’ others say, ‘It’s that.’”

Apparently it wasn’t the Department of Education, but rather corporate sponsors like Target, Nickelodeon and United Way who provided the books. and, according to Tim Tuten at the Department of Education, there were no SpongeBob videos played at the event.

“We’ve never shown any videos ever, so I have no idea where that is coming from,” he said. Tuten added that participants were permitted to choose one of dozens of diverse books to take home with them and the SpongeBob book was one of those options.

Joe Bastardi, providing "utter nonense"

Fox News, doing its best to spread misinformation about climate change, brought up the claim that “CO2 can’t cause warming,” citing the First Law of Thermodynamics and Le Chatelier’s Principle …Here’s what Joe Bastardi said on Fox News:

human-induced climate change “contradicts what we call the 1st law of thermodynamics. Energy can be neither created nor destroyed. So to look for input of energy into the atmosphere, you have to come from a foreign source.”

As for Le Chatelier’s Principle, Bastardi stated the following:

Le Chatelier’s Principle “says that any system in distress, physical or chemical in the atmosphere, tries to return toward normalcy. And that is why you’re seeing temperatures level off.”

Let’s see what some experts have to say about these claims, shall we?

Duke University scientist William Chameides, who called Fox’s claims “utter nonsense” – Read here:

It is true that global warming requires a source of heat. In this case it comes from the sun. What CO2 does is trap a larger amount of the heat from the sun, preventing it from escaping and thus driving up temperatures. To argue otherwise is to argue that the greenhouse effect does not exist. In fact the existence of the greenhouse effect was established by scientists more than a century ago. It would be impossible to explain the temperatures of Mars and Venus, as well as the Earth, without invoking this effect.

Kevin Trenberth, Senior Scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research has this to say:

the system “re-creates equilibrium” by heating up, since the surface and atmosphere radiate more at a higher temperature. As a result, “it reaches a new equilibrium but at a higher temperature,” he said, adding: “And of course we keep adding more CO2 so we have not reached that new state yet.”

David Archer of the University of Chicago’s Department of Geophysical Sciences responds as well:

“Without Le Chatelier’s principle, the climate crisis would be much worse than it is, but even with this buffering, the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere is rising and will continue to remain elevated for tens of thousands of years into the future. So to suggest that Le Chatelier’s principle is going to save us is wrong.” And the principle certainly doesn’t establish that “CO2 Can’t Cause Warming.”

Rupert Murdoch - said to believe "coloreds" like American sports

Roger Simon, who wrote a telling piece for Politico, provides fascinating insight into Rupert Murdoch‘s formula for success when purchasing and running a company… at least to those of us outside of Murdoch’s inner circle of evil.

Simon and his wife worked for the Chicago Sun-Times prior to Murdoch buying the company. Soon after, Simon and his left, but not after witnessing first-hand racist remarks from the media magnate.

SIMON: I had a conversation with him about various sections of the paper. “I don’t understand anything about American sport,” [Murdoch] told me breezily, “but I know the coloreds like it.”

I told him that in America we no longer used the word “coloreds,” that it was considered insulting.

He looked at me the way Queen Victoria might have looked at a footman who had told her she was using the wrong fork to eat her pheasant.

Murdoch had apparently told employees and management at the Sun-Times that he intended to maintain the quality and integrity of the paper. Simon said everyone knew it was a lie. Within months, there were mass resignations and dismissals and Murdoch brought on his own “thugs” and “stooges.” He sold the paper, but the damage had been done.

Murdoch and his goons also know what damage can be caused to a political career and exactly how to do it using harassment, printing sexist remarks and photo editing…

Sarah Lyall of The New York Times wrote last week about Clare Short, a Labour member of Parliament, who once mentioned “in passing that she did not care for the photographs of saucy, topless women that appear every day on Page 3 of the populist tabloid The Sun,” owned by Murdoch.

The Sun attacked swiftly with the headline: “‘Fat, Jealous’ Clare Brands Page 3 Porn.” The paper also sent a busload of “semi-dressed” models to Short’s home to jeer at her and stuck a picture of Short’s head on the body of a topless woman in the paper.While powerful politicians often privately deplored the behavior of the British tabloids, they were “afraid to say so publicly, for fear of losing the papers’ support or finding themselves the target of their wrath,” the Times article said.

The editor of The Sun at the time of the attack on that “fat, jealous” member of Parliament was Rebekah Wade, now Rebekah Brooks, who has been arrested in the phone-hacking scandal and who testified Tuesday before a parliamentary committee right after Murdoch finished.

While Fox News may not be as blatantly sexist in their harassment of public officials in the United States, the results are basically the same… We saw the backlash that the Obama administration received when they called out Fox News for their BS. I wonder how many of those journalists who defended Fox News will realize they were on the wrong side of history when it’s all said and News Corp. is done.
