Stephen Colbert Addresses Glenn Beck’s ‘Hatred For Logic’

Stephen Colbert, host of Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report blasted President Obama for taking sides in what he equated to farts – things that shouldn’t be discussed… Colbert then took on Glenn Beck over his comments about Obama being a racist, questioning Beck’s logic.

COLBERT: Right, that’s not saying [Obama] dislikes white people. He’s saying that he has a deep-seated hatred for them… Like how Beck likes arguing but has a deep-seated hatred for logic.”

Colbert also mentioned Bill O’Reilly:

O’REILLY: I’m just not gonna talk about race with black people unless I know them very, very well.

COLBERT: In other words, he’s not gonna talk about race.

Fox News ‘Apologizes’ For Glenn Beck’s Racism Remarks (Not Really)

As you’re probably well aware, Glenn Beck claimed that President Obama is a racist and has a “deep seated hatred toward white people.”

Yesterday, the Sr. Vice President of Programming at Fox News, Bill Shine, issued the following statement:

SHINE: During Fox & Friends this morning, Glenn Beck expressed a personal opinion which represented his own views, not those of the Fox News Channel. And as with all commentators in the cable news arena, he is given the freedom to express his opinions.

Translation:

This morning Glenn Beck said something idiotic and untrue, but rather than take corrective action like a responsible news organization, Fox News Channel will do nothing. We are not in the business of reporting the news, we are in the business of making money on the backs of opinionated nut jobs like Beck.

In other words:

F U America!

Morning Joe Calls Out Glenn Beck for Saying Obama is a Racist

In response to Glenn Beck calling President Obama a racist, MSNBC’s Morning Joe ripped into Beck for an entire segment:

WASHINGTON POST’S JONATHAN CAPEHART: How is it possible that this guy can sit on national television and call this guy a racist? The President is half white!

MSNBC HOST MIKE BARNICLE: In reality, Glenn Beck is just show business. …The larger, dumber statement is that the President of the United States has a deep seeded hatred for white people. Hello Glenn!? His mother was white! He was raised by a white woman, his grandmother! Hello!? Glenn? … Come back down to Earth please!

HOST MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Outrageous is one way of putting it. I would say irresponsible, especially now…selfish, self-indulging.

Host Joe Scarborough wasn’t on the show this morning, but he did tweet that Beck’s remarks were “outrageous.”

Donny Deutsch Calls For Boycott of Glenn Beck’s Advertisers!

Daily Kos user aggregatescience reported that MSNBC / CNBC’s Donny Deutsch has called for a boycott of Glenn Beck’s advertisers due to Beck’s asinine claim that President Obama is a racist. Deutch announced the charge on his show, The Big Idea:

DEUTSCH: He called this president a ‘racist’ and a ‘hatred of white people’, okay?  This has to stop.  Here’s the only way this stops.  The reason this man does this, this Glenn Beck does this, is because it attracts viewers, it creates controversy…

If you’re an African-American or white American who’s tired of this kind of talk, write to the CEO’s of those companies and say: ‘you know what, put it somewhere else on Fox News, I’m not saying take it [your advertising] off of Fox News, take it off this man’s show.

The following advertisers were listed by Deutsch on air:

  • General Motors
  • Campbell Soup
  • Chrysler
  • Proctor & Gamble
  • Pfizer
  • Kellogg
  • Walmart
  • Kraft Foods
  • Nestle

I will make sure those are all included on the Fox News Sponsors List

Glenn Beck Claims President Obama is a Racist

What would Glenn Beck do for ratings? What would Fox News’ Fox & Friends air on its show without dispute? Hint: It’s calling the President of the United States a racist.

That’s right, Glenn Beck was on Fox & Friends and stated, “this president has exposed himself, I think, as a guy, over and over and over again, who has a deep-seated hatred for white people, or white culture.” He then contradicts himself, while supporting his claim, by stating, “I’m not saying that he doesn’t like white people. I’m saying he has a problem. He has a, this guy is, I believe, a racist.”

What was that? First Beck claims that Obama hates white people, then claims he’s not saying that, while in the same breath calls Obama a racist.

And, of course, Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade, to whom Beck was speaking, doesn’t challenge these assertions one bit.

Greta Van Susteren Doesn’t Challenge Limbaugh on BS

Fox News had Rush Limbaugh on to celebrate his 21 years of being a bloated radio personality full of BS. Greta Van Susteren lobbed softball questions at Limbaugh and noted his “amazing” career and asked of his “secret” to the “longevity.”

If that wasn’t enough to make you sick, Limbaugh’s answers would – he actually had the nerve to credit being “positive” and treating his audience with “respect.” He even claimed that he was “inspiring and motivational.” I guess that would be apart from wanting the President to fail, calling health care reform an “ideological attempt to control freedom” and claiming that Obama is making the unemployment situation worse. It’s Limbaugh who said, “They don’t have jobs. They don’t have rising incomes. They don’t have the seas being lowered. He actually promised that. We — none of — we don’t have anything positive happening.”

Drama Queen Glenn Beck Wipes Stars Off U.S. Flag

Whether it’s crying like a baby, screaming like an an insane person, or being overly dramatic with props, Glenn Beck is a drama queen. Now he’s complained about lack of states’ rights in a rant where he wipes 48 of the 50 stars off the flag of the United States of America. Only Alaska and Tennessee remained. Apparently, he won’t replace the stars until they “decide to get serious about states’ rights.”

Glenn Beck Packs Heat in Movie Theaters

The Senate, today, defeated an amendment that would allow people to carry concealed firearms across state lines. Glenn Beck spoke to the amendment’s sponsor, Senator John Thune (R-SD) and made the following remark:

BECK: I’m a gun owner, and I’m a member of the NRA, and I am a concealed weapons permit holder. So, I mean, I love guns!… I went to the movie this weekend with a gun. And surprise, surprise, I didn’t kill anybody!

Fox News Hosts Criticize Obama on Nonexistent Provision

The Drudge Report & Rush Limbaugh have floated a false accusation that President Obama has not read, or is not familiar with certain provisions of the House health care reform bill. Even after the accusations were debunked, Fox News hosts Sean Hannity, Neil Cavuto, Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade all criticized Obama for the same reason.

July 21 – Hannity (talking with Dana Perino):

HANNITY: The president is rushing Congress to produce a health care bill before the August recess, but apparently he’s not reading the bill too closely. Now listen to his response when asked by a blogger about a provision in the House bill.

OBAMA [audio clip]: You know, I have to say that I am not familiar with the provision you’re talking about. Let me just speak for the Obama administration.

July 21 – Your World With Neil Cavuto (does not challenge flasehood):

DeMINT: And now he wants to pass something that affects a fifth of our total economy in the next two weeks, and no one has even seen an entire bill. He doesn’t even know what’s in it, and he’s admitted it

July 22 – Fox & Friends:

DOOCY: We are going to talk to her about it. So there he is, and somebody wants to know about one particular part, section 102, because it’s very important to all of us. Let’s hear what the president had to say about it.

OBAMA [audio clip]: You know, I have to say that I am not familiar with the provision you’re talking about. Let me just speak for the Obama administration.

KILMEADE: And here’s — so I thought, OK, 102 — it’s over 1,000 pages.

DOOCY: Right.

KILMEADE: So it’s no big deal. Maybe we are demanding too much.

The fact of the matter is that the provision referenced by Hannity, Cavuto, Doocy & Kilmeade does not exist. How did this start? A blogger asked Obama to comment on a claim made in a July 15 Investor’s Business Daily editorial. The blogger claimed that the bill “will make individual private medical insurance illegal.” Obama responded, “You know, I have to say that I am not familiar with the provision you’re talking about.” – because it does not exist.

Sean Hannity ‘Slams’ Obama on Behalf of Mayo Clinic

On July 21, Sean Hannity uttered another falsehood about Obama and health care reform. Hannity incorrectly stated that the Mayo Clinic “slams the president’s [health care] proposal.” Furthermore, Hannity referred to it as Obama’s “nanny state, cradle to the grave, womb to the tomb, nationalized health care socialized system.”

Hannity must not keep up with current events. On July 16, the Mayo Clinic did issue a statement, criticizing the House bill for “fail[ing] to use a fundamental lever — a change in Medicare payment policy — to help drive necessary improvements in American health care.” However, the Obama Administration has suggested revisions to address Medicare payment rates, which the Mayo Clinic then applauded.

The May Clinic’s Health Policy blog stated, “We applaud the direction” of the Obama administration’s IMAC proposal, adding, “This, and other, bold concepts have the potential to ‘bend the cost curve’ in U.S. health spending without compromising health.”

Former Fox News Producer Sentenced to 10 Years for Child Porn

Back in May, FNB posted that former Fox News producer Aaron Bruns was facing charges of possession of child pornography. Bruns plead guilty to possession of child pornography and the Associated Press has just reported that Bruns has been sentenced in U.S. District Court to ten years in prison.

From the previous FNB post:

Police found more than 300 images and at least five movies depicting the sexual abuse of children under the age of 10, including one younger than five.

Ten years ago, while attending University of Michigan, Bruns faced similar charges. In that case, police found more than 2,000 child porn images on his computer, but he was given a second chance because of his age, so no official charges were made.

Fox News Uses Anti-Abortion Graphic in Health Care Reform Discussion

Borrowing the following graphic from the American Life League (ALL), a Christian pro-life organization, Fox News promotes its anti-choice agenda while discussing health care reform.

The “growing… growing… gone.” graphic is from ALL’s 2008 Pro-Life T-shirt Day. Regardless of anyone’s views on abortion, the decision to run such an image is purely subjective and does not provide anything to support a factual news report. So, why did Fox News use it?

To anyone who says that the above graphic doesn’t matter, then shouldn’t Fox News run one that states, “Against abortion? Don’t have one” the next time they bring up the issue?

Would that help, or harm Fox News’ agenda? Keep in mind that real news should be agenda-free.

Glenn Beck Repeats More Stimulus Falsehoods

Glenn Beck, failing to verify whether the apparent source of his misinformation, the Drudge Report, had its facts straight, repeated the claim that $1.4million of economic stimulus funds would be used to “repair a door.”

The fact of the matter is that the “door,” in reality, are large hangar doors at Dyess Air Force Base in Texas. Furthermore, they do not cost $1.4million to repair. Some of the stimulus funds may have also saved eight jobs and created two more.

Beck also mentioned $1.1million of stimulus funds going toward “2 pound frozen ham” and “more than 1.5million… for some mozerella cheese.” Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has already addressed this:

VILSACK: “references to ’2 pound frozen ham sliced’ are to the sizes of the packaging. Press reports suggesting that the Recovery Act spent $1.191 million to buy ’2 pounds of ham’ are wrong.” Vilsack added: “In fact, the contract in question purchased 760,000 pounds of ham for $1.191 million, at a cost of approximately $1.50 per pound.”

So, again, to those Fox News supporters who claim to get the “truth” from Fox News… Which of Beck’s statements above can possibly be considered truthful? Be sure to cite your sources (besides Beck).
