Unbalanced Fox News Orders YouTube to Remove Videos

Fox News has, issued 150 take-down notices to YouTube in regards to videos posted by News1News that may be critical of Fox News. News1News, which is now suspended, posted videos from other networks as well. Since News1News videos were typically posted on progressive blogs, those are the ones most likely to be affected.

Apparently News1News creator, Jon, has experienced this before with his NewsPoliticsNews channel. In that case, the channel was reinstated after YouTube lawyers disagreed with Fox News’ basis for their take-down order. The NewsPoliticsNews channel is still active.

It’s not known at this time if FoxNewsBoycott.com has posted any videos from the News1News channel, but if you see any with the message that it’s “no longer available,” that may be the situation. Unfortunately, for many blogs like this, once a video is removed, all that’s left is commentary without the factual evidence necessary to point out the possible falsehood being addressed. So, while another account can be created on YouTube, and the videos uploaded again, the biggest losers in all this are truth and accountability.

South Park Mocks Glenn Beck

You gotta love the part where Cartman uses the chalkboard to tell the student body that the school president wants to kills smurfs – similar to Beck’s OLIGARH claim! LOL

Fox News Specifically Allows Google to Index Site

Rupert Murdoch has publicly addressed his desire for Google to not index his content, so he can charge people to access it. As the CEO of News Corp. and, ultimately, the head honcho of Fox News, he can easily do this. As was pointed out previously, all he needed to do was ask.

Now, it’s come to light that FoxNews.com specifically asks Google’s bot to index their site. Here is their robots.txt file that gives the Googlebot instructions:

User-agent: *
Disallow: /printer_friendly_story
Disallow: /projects/livestream
#
User-agent: gsa-crawler
Allow: /printer_friendly_story
Allow: /google_search_index.xml
Allow: /google_news_index.xml
Allow: /*.xml.gz
#
Sitemap: http://www.foxnews.com/google_search_index.xml
Sitemap: http://www.foxnews.com/google_news_index.xml

Good luck with that legal action, Rupert. All Google needs to do is hand over the robots.txt file posted above and say, “See, they wanted us to index their content.” Not to mention the Fair Use doctrine means that Google is well within their rights. Unfortunately Murdoch wants to challenge the Fair Use doctrine and, if he were to win, it could be disastrous for U.S. copyright law and all forms of media.

Sean Hannity Caught Using 9/12 Video to Inflate Bachmann Rally #s

The Daily Show host Jon Stewart slams Sean Hannity for trying to dupe his viewers by showing footage of the crowds from the 9/12 Project event in Washington DC and saying it was from Rep. Michele Bachmann’s (R-MN) anti-health care reform protest. First, 9/12 supporters use attendance numbers from Obama’s Inauguration to inflate their own attendance, and now they’re using the actual 9/12 footage to inflate the numbers of the latest event.

Update: Sean Hannity has apologized. Did I just see something porcine go past my window?

HANNITY: Now on his program last night he mentioned that we had played some incorrect video on this program last week while talking about the Republican health care rally on Capitol Hill. He was correct. We screwed up. We aired some video of a rally in September, along with the video from the actual event. It was an inadvertent mistake, but a mistake nonetheless. So Mr. Stewart, you were right. We apologize. But by the way, I wanna thank you and all your writers for watching.

Translation: We inadvertently got caught.

Notice how he only apologized to Stewart? Where is the apology to his viewers? Perhaps his fans don’t expect one, because he is simply mirroring their own preconceived notions, right or wrong.

Sean Hannity Attempts to Tie Ft. Hood Shooting To Obama

The Ft. Hood shooting was a tragedy. We can all agree on that. But to place the blame on President Obama to fuel some sick agenda is also tragic. Here’s a recent quote from Sean Hannity, trying to tie the shooting to the current president.

HANNITY: This Fort Hood situation is really beginning to disturb me and should disturb everybody. And that is that there is a chance our government knew all about this guy Hasan and did nothing because nobody wanted to be called an Islamophobe. We’re not talking about Islam, we’re talking about radical Islam. You know, this guy going in there, god is great, etc., etc., and all the things he’s saying. But everybody hat worked with him, Bob, knew ahead of time, our government apparently knew and did nothing. Now, this is a terrorist act, if in fact this was motivated in such a way. What does it say about Barack Obama and our government?

Of course, Hannity doesn’t provide any proof that Obama knew anything about Hasan, or the emails to Anwar al-Awlaki. He also conveniently ignores the fact that the emails were reportedly intercepted in late 2008, while Bush was in office.

Rupert Murdoch Defends Glenn Beck Calling Obama a Racist

Remember back in July, Glenn Beck called President Obama a racist? Of course you do… it resulted in Beck losing 80 advertisers! So, now, why in the world would the CEO of Fox News‘ parent company, Rupert Murdoch, publicly defend Glenn Beck and agree with Beck’s assertion that Obama is a racist?

“On the racist thing, that caused a (unintelligible–grilling?). But he (Obama) did make a very racist comment. Ahhh..about, you know, blacks and whites and so on, which he said in his campaign he would be completely above. And um, that was something which perhaps shouldn’t have been said about the President, but if you actually assess what he was talking about, he was right.

Either Murdoch is incredibly stupid, which is debatable considering the whole Google issue, or he’s in it for the ratings… Since we’re talking about it, it’s a safe bet he said it for shock value. Of course, there’s a strong possibility that Murdoch is completely off his rocker.

In any event, feel free to tell him how you feel!

Rupert Murdoch Wants to [Needlessly] Block Google

Rupert Murdoch, CEO of News Corp., the parent company of Fox News, has issued another idle threat in response to what Murdoch perceives to be theft of information. Apparently, he wants News Corp. content removed from Google, because Google is not paying him to index content, and in connection with his idea of requiring visitors to pay to access said content. According to Google, this is not a problem…

Obvious to nearly anybody who has run a web site, it’s easy to block referrers and search engines from indexing sites. News Corp. could simply block Google via a robots.txt file. That would be step one for Murdoch. But, it seems, he would rather issue a public statement declaring his ignorance about the Internet.

And, in a statement issued by Google, all he had to do was ask…

“News organisations [sic] are in complete control over whether and how much of their content appears in search results,” it said said in a statement issued in London.

“Publishers put their content on the web because they want it to be found, so very few choose not to include their material in Google News and web search. But if they tell us not to include it, we don’t.”

It added: “If publishers want their content to be removed from Google News specifically all they need to do it tell us.”

Google also mentioned that not only are they in full compliance with copyright laws, but they also provide a huge amount of free publicity and traffic to such news organizations, “about 100,000 clicks every minute.”

Glenn Beck Loses ‘GB1990′ WIPO Complaint

The Internet meme questioning Glenn Beck‘s possible involvement in a rape and murder of a young girl in 1990 has just taken a step in helping to protect our rights from people who fear criticism. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has just ruled against Glenn Beck regarding his complaint about the original meme’s domain name, GlennBeckRapedAndMurderedAYoungGirlIn1990.com, which can now be accessed at GB1990.com.

The WIPO decision states, “For all foregoing reasons, the Complaint is denied.”

Because Complainant necessarily fails to prove that Respondent’s conduct runs afoul of all three elements required for adverse determination under the Policy, the Panel need not further address the elements of bad faith registration and use.

Even though Beck lost the WIPO case, the owner of the meme’s original domain name, Isaac Eiland-Hall, has decided to turn it over to Beck now that his lawyer successfully fought “this battle only to preserve the First Amendment,” as evidenced by the letter From Eiland-Hall to Glenn Beck.

It also bears noting, in this matter and for the future, that you are entirely in control of whether or not you are the subject of this particular form of criticism. I chose to criticize you using the well-tested method of satire because of its effectiveness. But, humor aside, your rhetorical style is no laughing matter. In this context of this WIPO case, you denigrated the letter of First Amendment law. In the context of your television show and your notoriety, you routinely and shamelessly denigrate the spirit of the First Amendment. The purpose of the expressive freedoms embodied in the First Amendment is not to simply permit the greatest possible scope of expressions, but also, in so doing, to also strive for excellence in the conveyance of ideas. Rather than choosing to strive for excellence and civic contribution, you simply pander to the fears and insecurities of your audience. And in the process, you do them, and us all, a great deal of harm.

So, now that this case has been put to rest, what are the results?

Glenn Beck has been exposed to the Streisand Effect by filing the complaint and taking a simple Internet meme and creating from it a supermeme. By attempting to remove the web site in question, they have done nothing but make it more famous. The meme may have died a fairly quick and natural death. However, by filing the WIPO complaint, Beck and his team have only made it more popular that it would have been otherwise. Thanks to them, it gained the attention of Ars Technica, MediaBistro, Techdirt and Gawker.

The complaint has helped to shed some light on what Glenn Beck may think of his viewers – one of the factors his team used to show that people may be confused by the domain name is the “moron in a hurry” test. Eiland-Hall’s lawyers responded by stating, “It is specious at best for Mr. Beck to assert that his fans, or the public as a whole, would confuse Respondent’s website with Mr. Beck himself—unless of course it is Mr. Beck’s view that his fans and the average internet user are in fact hurried morons.”

This experience has also brought to light Beck’s hypocrisy as noted in the proposed stipulation. He has stated, “once we sign our rights over to international law, the Constitution is officially dead.” Similarly, Beck has said, “Let me tell you something. When you can’t win with the people, you bump it up to the courts. When you can’t win with the courts, you bump it up to the international level.” If he believes that, why did he bypass the U.S. courts? We can safely assume that either he knows his own rhetoric is false, or he thinks it simply does not apply to him.

Finally, and the sole intention of the meme, people are now more aware of Glenn Beck’s use of fallacious reasoning, including the use of the negative proof fallacy. Hopefully his viewers are more aware of this as it’s been pointed out in his questioning of Keith Ellison (D-MN), the first Muslim member of the House of Representatives – “Prove to me that you are not working with our enemies…”

Fox News ‘Misreporting’ on Obama’s Election Night

Fox News Channel anchor Martha Maccallum had this to say about what Obama did when election results were coming in from N.Y. & N.J.:

MACCALLUM: Robert Gibbs said, well, he was actually watching, you know, the HBO special about his year-long campaign and how it all went…we know that Michelle and the girls went to the Miley Cyrus concert last night… So he’s all alone in that big house, right? Nothing to do but sit back and watch – reminisce about the long campaign and watch HBO and the special.

Not true. FNC’s Major Garrett stated that he “misheard” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. ABC News White House Correspondent Jake Tapper stated, “Gibbs did NOT say that POTUS [President Obama] watched the HBO film last night… I think someone must have misunderstood” and that “all Gibbs said is he didn’t watch election returns, got [election] info emailed to him.”

Looking Back at Glenn Beck on Osama bin Laden

Glenn Beck is known for two things related to the tragedy of 9/11 – 1) he stated that he hates 9/11 victims’ families and 2) used it to promote his 9/12 protest. Beck has now compared health care reform to 9/11. The following are a couple quotes from Beck about Osama bin Laden.

Here is Beck talking, recently, about Osama bin Laden:

BECK: In the 1990s, I was on the radio warning people about Osama bin Laden, not because I was some super-smart genius. I just listened to the man’s words. I really believed him. But that wasn’t the top of the priority list in America — no, no, no. We were dealing with the fat interns and the definition of is, and I like the rest of America went back to sleep on the terrorist threat.

Here was Beck talking about Osama bin Laden in 1998:

BECK: Now, another newspaper in Pakistan says that it received a statement for the–from the spokesperson for Azma bin Ladin [sic]. Is that is name? Bin Ladin? Bin Ladeen? Bin jelly bean, green bean, Mr. Clean? I love him. He’s hot. He says he’s ready for war with the U.S. Oh yes? Thank you Mr. Baked Bean.

A respected newspaper quotes the statement as follows: “The war has just started, and Americans should wait for the answer.” Now, Mr. Ozma Dig-my-scene, I don’t even know what the question was! Was the question “is my turban on too tight?” Yes! I think it is. The blood’s not pumping around the whole brain. Loosen the turban, Mr. Clean, dig my scene. Oh yes, let’s look at the latrine.

Wow, wasn’t that prophetic…

The Truth About Fox & Friends ‘Shockwaves’ Graphic

Fox & Friends ran the caption shown below stating, “Republicans’ hope rekindled; Wins send shockwaves thru Congress.” If they were referring to Republicans’ hope that the Democrats would win both congressional seats up for grabs, then they were right… Otherwise, Fox & Friends was misleading its viewers. Again.

Here are the results of the two races:

NY-23: Democrat Bill Owens defeated Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman.

CA-10: Democrat John Garamendi defeated Republican David Harmer.

Fox News Needs Definition of ‘Sweep’

FoxNews.com contained a graphic stating, “GOP SWEEP,” however, it wasn’t. Their own text below the graphic even confirms that it wasn’t. This is not a mere “typo” that (to use a Palinism) “gotcha” commenters can criticize – this is an obvious and deliberate attempt to show more strength for the GOP.
