Sarah Palin to Become Fox News Contributor

It was just a matter of time… Fox News has confirmed that Sarah Palin, who regularly said that Saddam Hussein was behind 9/11, will join FNC as a contributor. Apparently, she will host an occasional series, but will not have her own show.

Palin won’t be the first GOP governor to become a Fox News personality, as she will be joining the channel that hosts Mike Huckabee’s weekend show. Also, Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren is close friends with the Palin family, her husband having been an adviser for Sarah Palin. Fox News also invited the Palins to the White House Correspondents Dinner, though only Todd attended.

The editors will be busy if the ‘zero tolerance for on-screen errors‘ policy is enforced… which, we’ve seen, is not.

Beck: ‘African-American is a bogus, PC, made-up term… not a race.’

The following quote is from Glenn Beck while discussing the U.S. census…

BECK: African-American is a bogus, PC, made-up term. I mean, that’s not a race. Your ancestry is from Africa and now you live in America. Ok so you were brought over — either your family was brought over through the slave trade or you were born here and your family emigrated here or whatever but that is not a race.

That from someone who states that he doesn’t have “a lot of African-American friends, and I think part of it is because I’m afraid that I would be in an open conversation, and I would say something that somebody would take wrong, and then it would be a nightmare.”

He also recently asked a group of black conservatives, “Why not identify yourself as Americans?” he asked, adding, “I don’t identify myself as white, or a white American.”

Also note that Beck refused to define what “white culture” is, in reference to his rant during which he called President Obama a racist.

NPR Responds to Bill O’Reilly’s Attack

Bill O’Reilly, apparently upset about a cartoon (“Learn to Speak Tea Bag“) on NPR‘s web site, blasted back by questioning whether NPR is a “left-wing Jihadist deal.” So, today, NPR posted the following poll on their site:

NPR is …

  • A left-wing Jihadist deal.
  • A crypto-Communist front.
  • A toady for the Obama administration.
  • A toady for the Bush administration.
  • A toady for the Brezhnev administration.
  • A flag-waving, armband-wearing supporter of waterboarding, Lon Nol, and Efrem Zimbalist Jr.
  • A Hanoi-supporting, Pelosi-admiring Marxist front that ignores the fact the President of the United States was really born in Kenya.
  • A respectable news organization, despite its decision to run the Political Junkie blog on its Web site.
  • An invaluable news organization.

WorldNetDaily Attacks Glenn Beck on Birther Smear

Conspiracy theorist Glenn Beck recently had this to say about “birthers,” those other conspiracy theorists who question the validity (or existence) of President Obama’s birth certificate:

BECK: Today there is a concerted effort on all radio stations to get Birthers on the air. I have to tell you, are you working for the Barack Obama administration? I mean, that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. [...]

BECK:If I were Barack Obama, I would say, no, now, wait a minute; why do that when these people are so discrediting themselves because if I can get them to discredit themselves…

WorldNetDaily, which is a source frequently used by Fox News, didn’t appear to appreciate Beck’s statements, relating Beck to “Obama’s apologists.”

The ongoing dialogue then spun off into ridicule as Beck caricatured those who question the sitting president’s eligibility with straw-man arguments reminiscent of jibes made by Obama’s apologists in other news outlets. [...]

“Birthers,” however, reflect a far greater diversity of opinion than is assumed by Beck’s characterization. … While other top radio hosts, including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Mark Levin and Lou Dobbs, have all said unequivocally and publicly that the Obama eligibility issue is legitimate and worthy, a few – including Beck and fellow Fox TV host Bill O’Reilly – have taken the position that the issue is, in O’Reilly’s words, “bogus.” Both Beck and O’Reilly cite the contemporaneous appearance of birth announcements in two Honolulu newspapers as prima facie evidence Obama was born in Hawaii and “birthers” are conspiracy nuts.

Fox & Friends Confuses Retiring with ‘Defecting’

Fox & Friends questions whether Senators Chris Dodd (D-CT) and Byron Dorgan (D-ND) are defecting to the Republican party. They are retiring, Plain and simple. Only Rep. Parker Griffith (AL) has announced that he is switching parties.

This is another example of Fox News taking an obvious falsehood and putting a question mark after it to give it an air of plausibility, which is then believed to be the “truth” by their flock viewers. This is similar to the question, “Did Glenn Beck rape and murder a girl in 1990?

It may also be important to note that in the House, 14 GOP incumbents have decided not to seek re-election, while 10 Democratic incumbents have made the same announcement. And, in the Senate, six Republican incumbents have decided not to seek re-election, while two Democratic incumbents have made the same announcement.

Monica Crowley’s Bush/Terrorism Falsehood

Fox News contributor Monica Crowley was a guest on The O’Reilly Factor, during which she stated, “[a]fter 9-11, President Bush and Vice President Cheney had a 100 percent perfect track record in keeping the homeland safe from an Islamic terrorist attack.”

The problem with that statement can be explained by the following incidents that took place after the events on 9/11.

2002 attack against El Al ticket counter at LAX. In July 2002, Hesham Mohamed Hadayet opened fire at an El Al Airlines ticket counter at Los Angeles International Airport, killing two people and wounding four others before being shot dead. A 2004 Justice Department report stated that Hadayet’s case had been “officially designated as an act of international terrorism.”

2006 UNC SUV attack. In March 2006, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill graduate Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar drove an SUV into an area of campus, striking nine pedestrians. According to reports, Taheri-azar said he acted because he wanted to “avenge the deaths or murders of Muslims around the world.” Taheri-azar also reportedly stated in a letter: “I was aiming to follow in the footsteps of one of my role models, Mohammad Atta, one of the 9/11/01 hijackers, who obtained a doctorate degree.”

2001 shoe bomber attempted attack. In June 2008, then-Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff described Reid’s December 2001 attempt “to blow up a trans-Atlantic plane with a shoe bomb” as an attempt to “carry out terrorist operations for Al-Qaeda.”

Of course, Crowley failed to mention the number of terrorist-related deaths in the U.S. that occurred in each President’s first year in office – Bush: 3000+/- on 9/11, Obama: 14 (1 in Little Rock, 13 at Fort Hood).

Media Matters Now Has a ‘Beck Phone’ for ‘Misinformer of the Year’

Media Matters for America named Glenn Beck 2009′s Misinformer of the Year. Beck didn’t take too kindly to that title, so Media Matters has provided Glenn Beck with his own phone line to dispute the fact checking…

You can view the letter sent to Beck here. It includes the following list of falsehoods made by Beck over the last year:

  • Beck falsely claimed “[o]nly 3 percent” of stimulus plan would be “spent in the next 12 months.”
  • Beck aired false claim that a union only needs 30 percent support from employees to be “established.”
  • Beck falsely claimed average UAW worker makes $154 per hour.
  • Beck falsely asserted that U.S. does not fingerprint foreign visitors or collect rapists’ DNA.
  • Beck falsely claimed Iowa marriage ruling “is actually about going into churches.”
  • Beck echoes tired falsehood that ACORN received stimulus funds.
  • Beck falsely claimed $1.4 million in stimulus spent on doors, which actually cost $246,100 to repair.
  • Beck falsely claimed Obama said he doesn’t want health reform protesters to “do a lot of talking.”
  • Beck reports fake murder story from ACORN video as fact.
  • Beck, falsely claimed IPCC’s Latif has “pulled the rug out” from under climate change consensus.
  • Beck falsely claimed Anita Dunn “worships” “her hero” Mao Zedong.
  • Beck falsely accused Reid of lying about support for public option.
  • Beck falsely claimed that under the Senate health care bill, “You don’t get a single benefit until 2014.”
  • Reviving “born alive” falsehood, Beck claims Obama suggested it’s OK to “put a spike in the baby’s head.”
  • Beck falsely claims no jobs are being “saved or created.”
  • Beck falsely claimed Robert Creamer “stole” $2 million from banks.
  • Beck led charge advancing “Lie of the Year” contender that Holdren supported forced abortions and sterilizations.

FoxNews.com Middle East News Stuck in Bush Era

Nearly one year into Barack Obama’s first term as President, FoxNews.com is still displaying news from the Bush era. If you navigate to “WORLD,” select “The Mideast” from the “SECTION MAP” dropdown and look under “LATEST MIDDLE EAST NEWS” you will see the following severely outdated list:

  • Bush, Olmert Meeting to Focus on Iranian Nuclear Fears, Mideast Peace
  • U.S. Professor Donates Israeli Prize to Palestinian Students
  • Lebanese President Sworn In as Beirut Cheers
  • Bush Administration Wants to Speed Up Aid to Lebanese Army
  • Bush Readies for Visit to Middle East in May
  • Syrian Ambassador to U.S. Says CIA Fabricated Photo Evidence of Nuclear Reactor
  • White House Hosts 2 Days of Mideast Diplomacy
  • Hamas Leaders to Meet With Former President Jimmy Carter in Egypt
  • Carter Says He’ll Meet With Another Hamas Official
  • Army Gen. Martin Dempsey Takes Charge as Central Command Chief
  • Bush Believes ‘Plenty of Time’ to Strike Mideast Peace in His Term
  • Rice Heads to Mideast as Israeli-Palestinian Fractures Grow
  • Bush Administration Targets 4 Individuals Accused of Financial Assistance to Syria
  • Syrian Businessman Targeted in Bush Administration Sanctions
  • U.S. Concerned Over Massive Palestinian Flows Into Egypt

It appears the latest news item is from June, 2008. Of course, this is only one example. Here’s another: If you select “The Americas” the latest news you will find is from February, 2008!

Way to stay on top of things Fox News!
