Glenn Beck Loses Another Sponsor – GMAC Financial Services

Spokesperson for GMAC Finanacial Services, Sue Mallino, confirmed that they have pulled their ads off of Glenn Beck‘s show on Fox News Channel; however, she did not comment as to whether it was because of Beck’s racial comments about President Obama.

GMAC Financial Services joins a growing list of advertisers who have recently abandoned Beck’s television show, including ConAgra, Roche, Sanofi-Aventis, RadioShack, Men’s Wearhouse, State Farm Sargento, LexisNexis-owned Lawyers.com, Procter & Gamble, and Progressive Insurance.

Fox News Hardly Fair and Balanced on Health Care Reform

A report by Media Matters for America shows that, in segments discussing health care reform on August 10 and 11, Fox News was hardly “Fair and Balanced.” Looking at opponents of health care reform and those who support reform, Media Matters found that opponents outnumbered supporters six to one. That is 63 opponents hosted vs. only ten supporters for those two days.

This unbalance is not the only problem with Fox News’ reporting. They’ve also reported several falsehoods recently about health care reform, including editing Obama’s comments.

Response Received From State Farm

Visitor submitted response from State Farm:

From: Jairon L Wills jairon.l.wills.b92k@statefarm.com
Sent: Wednesday, August 12, 2009 12:59 PM
Subject: Comments/Suggestions/Unauthenticated

Thank you for your recent e-mail concerning State Farm’s advertising on the Fox network.

We have a policy of not advertising on political or opinion programming.  We have corrected this issue and have taken steps to make sure it does not happen again.

Understanding our millions of customers and thousands of associates hold a full spectrum of views on political issues, State Farm has a long-standing practice of not advertising in political discussion programming regardless of a program’s political point of view.

Because of the recent situation, State Farm is now evaluating its commercial placement practices to ensure its political issues advertising guidelines are maintained.

Thank you for your e-mail and your continued support of State Farm Insurance, both are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Jairon L. Wills
Executive Customer Service Supervisor
State Farm Insurance

This is, in my opinion, an above average response, though it does not say whether they have removed their ads from Fox News Channel, or just political shows.

Fox News Edits Obama Quote To Promote Idea of ‘Death Panels’

Fox News‘ Bret Baier and Shannon Bream were discussing health care reform, specifically the so-called “Death Panels” they imagine will decide the fate of the nation’s elderly. Here is what they had to say:

BREAM: He often discusses his grandmother’s story. She was battling terminal cancer when she fell and needed a hip replacement. Mr. Obama has talked about the fact that he would have paid her bills out of pocket, but that whether society should be willing to pay such costs is a tougher question.

In an April interview with The New York Times Magazine, he said, quote, “So that’s where I think you just get into some very difficult moral issues. But that’s also a huge driver of cost, right? I mean, the chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives are accounting for potentially 80 percent of the total health care bill out here.”

Here is what Obama really said, in context, AKA the truth:

THE PRESIDENT: Well, I think that there is going to have to be a conversation that is guided by doctors, scientists, ethicists. And then there is going to have to be a very difficult democratic conversation that takes place. It is very difficult to imagine the country making those decisions just through the normal political channels. And that’s part of why you have to have some independent group that can give you guidance. It’s not determinative, but I think has to be able to give you some guidance. And that’s part of what I suspect you’ll see emerging out of the various health care conversations that are taking place on the Hill right now. [The New York Times Magazine; 4/28/09]

Visitor submitted response from Men’s Wearhouse:

From: Stringer, Matthew (MS38) <MS38@tmw.com>
Subject: RE: Our Company
Date: Tuesday, August 11, 2009, 8:31 PM

Thank you for contacting Men’s Wearhouse and bringing to our attention  your concerns with Fox News. While we support free speech and do not make advertising decisions based on our own personal ideologies, after reviewing Glenn Beck’s recent incendiary comments we have decided  to remove our advertising from his program. We hope that this decision will allow you to continue to patronize Men’s Wearhouse. I would encourage you to please share our decision with anyone else who may have expressed a similar concern.

Sincerely,

Response Received from United Parcel Service (UPS)

Visitor submitted response from UPS:

From: customer.service@ups.com [mailto:customer.service@ups.com]
Sent: Tuesday, August 11, 2009 4:19 AM
Subject: General / General

Thank you for your e-mail regarding our recent advertising on Fox. We value your input and take your comments very seriously.

UPS is very sensitive to the type of television programming with which we associate our messaging. While our advertising schedules are purchased months in advance, we work with our agencies to monitor programming for offensive, inappropriate or controversial content as our schedules run. We do not, however, always have complete visibility into which programs will be promoted in purchased shows.

Occasionally, our advertising ends up near polarizing content. If we find that this becomes a consistent pattern, we will re-evaluate our commitment to particular programs or networks.

Please contact us if you need any additional assistance.

I hope they do reevaluate their decision to advertise on Fox News; however, that is not much of a response… Keep the pressure on. Here is their contact information:

We deeply appreciate your reaching out to us and sharing your comments and concerns about Sargento ads appearing during “The Glenn Beck Show.” We sat down with the marketing department to talk about it and I learned that we buy time periods not specific programs. But in any event, they’ve made the decision to exclude that program from our future ad rotation. Simply stated, Sargento ads won’t be airing during that show. Again, thanks for contacting us.

Fox News Falsehood About Pelosi Calling Protesters Nazis

Gregg Jarrett, an anchor on Fox News, falsely claimed that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi “sort of suggested that any American citizen who dared voice an objection in a protest is a Nazi, apparently based on one isolated incident.”

The truth is that she’s never called a protester a Nazi, compared a protesters to Nazis, or anything of the sort. What she really said, at more than “one isolated incident” is that some protesters turning out at Town Hall meetings were carrying signs with swastikas and Nazi-related symbols.

JARRETT: First of all, in the beginning, Pelosi sort of suggested that any American citizen who dared voice an objection in a protest is a Nazi, apparently based on one isolated incident. But now, she’s stepped it up and she’s labeling protesters “un-American.” Isn’t that destructive rather than constructive?

What Nancy Pelosi really said:

PELOSI: I think they’re Astroturf; you be the judge. They’re carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on health care.

And it’s absolutely true.

And it’s not just signs – vandals have struck Congressman David Scott’s (D-GA) office and spray painted a large swastika over his name.

‘Deather’ Shows Up On Fox News

When you see some idiot making outlandish claims about the Obama Administration, there’s a good chance you’ll also see them on Fox News, a la Joe The Plumber. That’s how we got to know the “concerned father,” from a Michigan Town Hall meeting with John Dingell (D-MI), since he showed up to talk with with Megyn Kelly.

SOLA: The harm that is being done is being done by this administration and the Congress. They want to foist on us a health-care plan that they themselves will not take. I challenge Barack Obama, members of Congress — of both parties — if you believe so much in this plan, then you use it on your family before you put it on our families. What you are doing is sentencing our families to death.

We lose the right to life. Old people are discarded. Those who cannot fend for themselves are discarded. There is no liberty under your plan. And that’s the problem — the people have seen it, the people know it, you can’t hide it from the American people anymore.

If I’m a thug, fine. Don’t call my son a thug, and don’t call those old ladies and old men that are senior citizens like I am, thugs, and a mob. We are not. We are American citizens who want one thing: To be heard before you put us down.

Such has been the case at many Town Hall Meetings. So-called “concerned citizens” are disrupting important discussion and ignoring the information that could answer their questions. But they’d rather should “liar” than listen and have a rational discussion about the facts.

Fox News & MSNBC Arrange Ethically Questionable Cease Fire

Fox NewsBill O’Reilly and MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann, for example, are two on air personalities at the two networks who have been at war for  quite some time. You may recall that Olbermann retired his caricature of O’Reilly after the Tiller storm, but the real story may have played out behind the scenes.

Apparently the two attacking sides were causing real damage toward each other’s parent companies. So, behind closed doors and via private phone calls, a cease fire had been reached between the two media conglomerates. While not all of the shots have quieted, it has been pretty silent, especially considering that Fox News has seeminly moved on to attacking CNN more recently.

What does this mean to those of us seeking the truth and wanting the lies exposed? Perhaps, not that much. Olbermann responded, “I am party to no deal.” However, his show is not live and he does not have final say over what is ultimately aired.

Fox News ‘Apologizes’ For Glenn Beck’s Racism Remarks (Not Really)

As you’re probably well aware, Glenn Beck claimed that President Obama is a racist and has a “deep seated hatred toward white people.”

Yesterday, the Sr. Vice President of Programming at Fox News, Bill Shine, issued the following statement:

SHINE: During Fox & Friends this morning, Glenn Beck expressed a personal opinion which represented his own views, not those of the Fox News Channel. And as with all commentators in the cable news arena, he is given the freedom to express his opinions.

Translation:

This morning Glenn Beck said something idiotic and untrue, but rather than take corrective action like a responsible news organization, Fox News Channel will do nothing. We are not in the business of reporting the news, we are in the business of making money on the backs of opinionated nut jobs like Beck.

In other words:

F U America!

Former Fox News Producer Sentenced to 10 Years for Child Porn

Back in May, FNB posted that former Fox News producer Aaron Bruns was facing charges of possession of child pornography. Bruns plead guilty to possession of child pornography and the Associated Press has just reported that Bruns has been sentenced in U.S. District Court to ten years in prison.

From the previous FNB post:

Police found more than 300 images and at least five movies depicting the sexual abuse of children under the age of 10, including one younger than five.

Ten years ago, while attending University of Michigan, Bruns faced similar charges. In that case, police found more than 2,000 child porn images on his computer, but he was given a second chance because of his age, so no official charges were made.

Fox News Uses Anti-Abortion Graphic in Health Care Reform Discussion

Borrowing the following graphic from the American Life League (ALL), a Christian pro-life organization, Fox News promotes its anti-choice agenda while discussing health care reform.

The “growing… growing… gone.” graphic is from ALL’s 2008 Pro-Life T-shirt Day. Regardless of anyone’s views on abortion, the decision to run such an image is purely subjective and does not provide anything to support a factual news report. So, why did Fox News use it?

To anyone who says that the above graphic doesn’t matter, then shouldn’t Fox News run one that states, “Against abortion? Don’t have one” the next time they bring up the issue?

Would that help, or harm Fox News’ agenda? Keep in mind that real news should be agenda-free.
