  1. This is a great idea. The best way to battle the “citizens united” decision is to hit these companies in the pocket book and there is no better place to start than with their propaganda machine.

    Just reducing their customer base by ten to fifteen percent would put many of them out of business. The motive of greed will be the most effective way to keep them honest.

    This will be tough. My home insurance, my car, my ISP and more are on this list. But I like the idea of turning my dollars toward more sensible companies and away from those who agitate by striking fear in small-hearted people.

    I would love to take part, but can’t see how I can “boycott” my heath insurance provider, United Healthcare. With a preexisting condition, healthcare through another company would be cost prohibitive, if not unavailable. This health insurance is through my former employer, Procter & Gamble. That is another tough one to boycott, in that P&G brands its products, rather than the company. You may use P&G products without even realizing who manufactures them. Another poster suggested concentrating on the “big fish” like P&G. Unless we can get numbers of boycotters in the MILLIONS, it won’t effect P&G’s decision to advertise to millions of potential consumers on Fox. It won’t even appear on their radar screen. I know this like I know my own name, having been a proctoid for 25 years. Any suggestions?

      Like you, I and my family are connected in some way with a number of the corporations which advertise on Fox. I understand your frustration. I offer this: write these advertisers; tell them you are actively avoiding their products and services; tell them you are encouraging your friends, family and neighbors to do the same.
      Your voice counts. The hate mongers rely on inducing a sense of apathy and hopelessness in those of us who do not participate in their hate. Your act of speaking up reduces this hate by actively showing you are neither apathetic nor hopeless.

Fox News Channel, (FNC) has always denied any conservative political bias, but the channel’s founding CEO, in cooperation with Rupert Murdoch, is media consultant Roger Ailes, a career republican who worked for Republican presidents Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, and George H. W. Bush, as well as Giuliani’s 1989 campaign. So tell that to your Fox-viewing friends that swear they are “fair and balanced.”

    A vast number of Americans are angry and fearful because of the current economy, job market, and poor state of affairs in their country. Dissatisfied, feeling powerless, and without an understanding on how it got this way, they long for the good old days when things were simple and the world could be understood — here is your Fox News Channel audience. They want superheroes to save them and a boogieman to blame, so raging media gurus and war soldiers versus the liberal media and a black Muslim president fit the bill, respectively. Fox media pundits tap into this collective emotional power, using this as leverage for mass market programming for the propagation of political and corporatist interests, also known as propaganda.

    FNC’s politically-biased tactics are right out of Hitler’s Mein Kamf and the German propaganda machine of the Third Reich:

    “The art of propaganda consists precisely in being able to awaken the imagination of the public through an appeal to their feelings, in finding the appropriate psychological form that will arrest the attention and appeal to the hearts of the national masses….This sentiment, however, is not complex, but simple and consistent … and has only the negative and positive notions of love and hatred, right and wrong, truth and falsehood. All effective propaganda must be confined to a few bare essentials and those must be expressed as far as possible in stereotyped formulas.”

    Because I am aware of the above, I never ever watch FNC. I was surprised, though, to learn of all the seemingly progressive and consumer-friendly sponsors; ones like AARP, Napster, LL Bean, Adobe, Earthlink, 60Plus, and Brita. I suppose that many of these sponsors do not care about FNC’s hate-mongering political bias, but care more about the ratings and the demographics.

    I’ve been a part time progressive activist since 2001, and had the thought of starting a website for the purpose of boycotting the “profits over people” corporations that are funding and pulling the political strings affecting our country. This site is a good start. Now I can see exactly which products I need to cut out of my life, and which stores I can visit with a clear and free conscience. Consumers do have power. Thanks to, and all the aware consumers who choose wisely. Goodbye DirectTV, hello Dish!

  5. I agree with the idea of targeting the largest of these sponsors first and with that in mind Proctor and Gamble does seem to rise to the top of the list.
    It can be a bit confusing to realize that this company owns numerous commonly seen brands that are most likely in just about every household.
    I have been boycotting them for several years now for other reasons, but I thought readers might be interested in a list of the products that P&G manufactures.

  7. Great list! Wow, sorry to see there are about 8 businesses on this list and I’ll reach out and address them all with email and phone calls asking them to pull their support of Fox and Glenn Beck.

    More importantly, I am printing this list as a handout to my customers available on my front desk point of purchase displays so everyone does the same. Thank God my clients are like minded and all of us are against the Republican demagoguery! I challenge all small business owners to do the same. What better way educate the public then first-hand.

    Mary Wright, “the only way to discover the truth is to listen to all points of view.” Wrong, the news is not a point of view. The news is supposed to be factual. Either something happened or it didn’t; someone said something or they didn’t. I don’t care about the news reader’s “point of view.” Just tell me what happened and if you’re really into news, go dig for a story, don’t just parrot the powers that be. So much of what is going on today is not reported, because it doesn’t fit with the “point of view” of the profit-making entity that owns the news. After all we wouldn’t want to upset an advertiser, or a stock-holder, would we.

      I took radio journalism in high school (mid-60s). We were taught that news stories must be accurate, factual and without opinion by the newscaster. It’s hard to find newscasters without opinions on any of the programs, local or national. Too, if a newscaster on television doesn’t express an opinion, the facial expressions generally give away their feelings on a subject. When did they rewrite the rules of journalism? So many people here are complaining that this appeal can hit their daily household service providers.One solution can be If you cannot boycott that supplier right after scribbling this post than at least buy half of what you normally used to buy.Like if your soap and shampoo provider is in a list ,you can buy 1 shampoo instead of 2 ,same applies to other product and services as well.Through this way,you will helping this cause and record your protest without getting frustrated.

I have been a paying customer of Napsters for many many years, unlike most Repubs I know that just steal their music from different sites online and also make fun of me because I pay for it. A phone call or email to the above companies expressing your dismay that they support an entertainment program falsely passing itself off as news and refusing to buy their goods or services goes a long way. If enough of these calls and emails go through I’m sure that financial support will be pulled.
    Call, write or email to show you do not agree where their advertizing dollars go. Money talks loud and clear when it comes from customers.

    also you guys should realize a lot of the companies on this list are run by very liberal people and many came out publicly supporting the occupy movements, i know mens wearhouse and directv are both hated by a lot of conservatives for supporting OWS and in fact directv stoood up to the fox corporation last year when fox tried to milk money from directv by jacking up the prices on all of their networks like FX and NatGeo, but directv played chicken with them down to the wire and fox backed down.

    compankes advertise on channels that have high amounts of viewers, not because they like the contents of the channel, all of these companies advertise on MSNBC as well. in reality the best way to combat this is to keep attacking fox news itself and converting people to better news media, that way as fox news’ viewers drop these companies will care less and less about advertising with them.
