Actually, the Senate Bill, before the House, forbids insurers from using federal subsidies to do so, except in cases of life endangerment, rape, or incest. It specifically states, “the issuer of the plan shall not use any amount attributable” to the subsidies created under the bill “for purposes of paying for such services.” The bill that passed the Senate requires insurers to collect a separate payment for such services so that federal funds are not used as O’Reilly falsely stated.

HANNITY: So we know the White House sought out Van Jones, which begs the question: How many more like him are serving in our government? Is Van Jones just the tip of the iceberg? We know for example there’s John Holdren, the science and technology adviser, who has advocated compulsory abortion. And then there’s Cass Sunstein, the Harvard law professor, who wants to ban hunting and grant rights to livestock, wildlife, and pets. Now we can only conclude that it’s time to take a much closer look at who exactly this president has now serving in our government.

What the heck is Hannity talking about. Apparently Holdren co-authored a book on environmental sciences over 30 years ago that discusses “compulsory control of family size” for countries populations with expanding birth rates that cannot be curbed by “milder methods.” That is not the same thing as “advocating compulsory abortion.” PolitiFact gives this claim “pants on fire” status.

Here is a statement from Holdren’s office:

The quotations used to suggest that Dr. Holdren supports coercive approaches to limiting population growth were taken from a 1977 college textbook on environmental science and policy, of which he was the third author. The quoted material was from a section of the book that described different possible approaches to limiting population growth and then concluded that the authors’ own preference was to employ the noncoercive approaches before the environmental and social impacts of overpopulation led desperate societies to employ coercive ones. Dr. Holdren has never been an advocate of compulsory abortions or other repressive means of population limitation.

The “growing… growing… gone.” graphic is from ALL’s 2008 Pro-Life T-shirt Day. Regardless of anyone’s views on abortion, the decision to run such an image is purely subjective and does not provide anything to support a factual news report. So, why did Fox News use it?

To anyone who says that the above graphic doesn’t matter, then shouldn’t Fox News run one that states, “Against abortion? Don’t have one” the next time they bring up the issue?

Would that help, or harm Fox News’ agenda? Keep in mind that real news should be agenda-free.

Without Ms. Walsh there to respond, O’Reilly manipulated the video to remove the facts she provided and to show that it’s the crazy liberals who have no regard for “murdered” babies. O’Reilly also repeated his unverified and illogical arguments about the procedures and the numbers performed.

According to O’Reilly, Dr. Tiller performed 60,000 late term abortions, which were legal, BTW. If you do the math, that would be more than 16 late term abortions per day, 7 days a week for 10 years. Nevermind that the procedure is rare and highly regulated.

The alleged murderer, Scott Roeder, supposedly posted the following on an Operation Rescue web site in 2007:

It seems as though what is happening in Kansas could be compared to the “lawlessness” which is spoken of in the Bible. Tiller is the concentration camp “Mengele” of our day and needs to be stopped before he and those who protect him bring judgement upon our nation.

There were 29 episodes of The O’Reilly Factor that mentioned Dr. George Tiller with hateful, sometimes violent, language. Some examples were mentioned on BradBlog.

O’Reilly continued his series of programs focusing on the Kansas physician, charging him with “operating a death mill” (video here), and alleging that he was “executing babies” (video here).

O’Reilly had previously been highly critical of the state’s Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, charging, during his “Talking Points” commentary in 2007, that she was “allowing [Tiller] to continue the slaughter.”

The idea that Bill O’Reilly‘s inciteful language was influential for people, like Roeder, was furthered by Salon’s Gabriel Winant.

Tiller’s name first appeared on The Factor on Feb. 25, 2005. Since then, O’Reilly and his guest hosts have brought up the doctor on 28 more episodes, including as recently as April 27 of this year. Almost invariably, Tiller is described as “Tiller the Baby Killer.”

Tiller, O’Reilly likes to say, “destroys fetuses for just about any reason right up until the birth date for $5,000.” He’s guilty of “Nazi stuff,” said O’Reilly on June 8, 2005; a moral equivalent to NAMBLA and al-Qaida, he suggested on March 15, 2006. “This is the kind of stuff happened in Mao’s China, Hitler’s Germany, Stalin’s Soviet Union,” said O’Reilly on Nov. 9, 2006.

O’Reilly has also frequently linked Tiller to his longtime obsession, child molestation and rape. Because a young teenager who received an abortion from Tiller could, by definition, have been a victim of statutory rape, O’Reilly frequently suggested that the clinic was covering up for child rapists (rather than teenage boyfriends) by refusing to release records on the abortions performed.

The New York Times also reported on the possible connection, providing quotes and details from several sources.

Within nine hours of Dr. Tiller’s death, Salon magazine had catalogued references to him on 29 episodes of “The O’Reilly Factor” from 2005 to 2009. In one, Mr. O’Reilly talks about him and the lawmakers who supported his “business of destruction,” saying, “I wouldn’t want to be these people if there is a Judgment Day.”

Bloggers quickly found new examples of Mr. O’Reilly’s condemnation of Dr. Tiller. A commenter on Daily Kos noted that Mr. O’Reilly once sent a producer to ambush the doctor at his home in Kansas. After the producer told him that some people called him a “baby killer,” the doctor tried to leave his house and called 911. The camera crew ended the confrontation.

The murderer is responsible for his own actions, but influences cannot be denied. The question then becomes, was he influenced by the hateful and violent rhetoric from people like Bill O’Reilly. We’re not likely to know unless he specifically states what incited his actions. Regardless, the use of such language is sickening, to say the least.

Here are a few choice things O’Reilly has said over the years about Dr. Tiller:

• “Tiller the baby killer”
• “blood on his hands”
• “I wouldn’t want to be these people if there is a Judgment Day”
• “If I could get my hands on Tiller…”

Over the past four or five years, it has been documented, Bill O’Reilly referenced Dr. Tiller 29 times! Make that 29 separate episodes of The O’Reilly Factor. At one point, he even sicked favorite ambush journalist, Jesse Watters, on Dr. Tiller, who was forced to call 911.

Of course, Bill O’Reilly was quick to blame “far-left zealots” and “Fox News haters.” While he claims that everything he said about Dr. Tiller was true, it does little to assuage the fact that it’s the number of incidents and the language used that are the real issues. It can also be said that, based on the quotes listed above, O’Reilly included hurtful subjective rhetoric that has no place on a “news” channel, or he is an absolute liar.

This is a must watch, a must forward and a must talk about piece from Keith Olbermann. Regardless of your views of how biased you think his show is, he does a great job covering Bill O’Reilly’s involvement in essentially making Dr. George Tiller a target. Olbermann finishes the segment stating that he will no longer focus so much of his time and effort on O’Reilly. He also calls for Fox News to be “quarantined,” meaning to not support any business that supports or airs Fox News, something that FoxNewsBoycott.com has been suggesting since the site’s launch.
