Glenn Beck Demands Proof of Lies About George Soros

Forbes magazine rightfully stated that Fox News personality Glenn Beck had been “falsely vilifying” George Soros. Beck’s numerous conspiracy theories often include Soros, the financier, businessman and notable philanthropist. Beck didn’t agree with the statement about the false vilification and stated, “I’d like to know exactly what I lied about.”

BECK CLAIM: In 2004, Soros Called The Election “Not A Normal Election,” And Said That “In Periods Of Regime Change, Normal Rules Do Not Apply.” Accusing Soros of setting up a “shadow party” to interfere in the 2004 elections, Beck cited David Horowitz and Richard Poe’s The Shadow Party.

REALITY: Beck Used Comments From 1995 To Show That Soros “Didn’t Mince Words” In 2004. Those comments are actually from the 1995 book Soros on Soros: Staying Ahead of the Curve.

REALITY: LSE Is A Mainstream University That Many Prominent Conservatives Have Attended. While it is true that LSE was founded by four members of the Fabian Society in 1895, Beck’s suggestion that the school is a socialist indoctrination center is ridiculous.

REALITY: Soros Said That “An Orderly Decline Of The Dollar Is Actually Desirable” To Boost Exports And Compensate For Decreased Consumer Spending. The comments Beck cited come from a 2009 interview Soros gave to the Financial Times, where Soros discussed concerns about the dollar’s relative strength to the value of other international currencies.

REALITY: Economist Nouriel Roubini Has Said: “[E]verybody Wants A Weaker Currency.” During an interview with Bloomberg Radio’s Surveillance, economist Nouriel Roubini was asked about the need for international currency coordination. Roubini said, “We’re not going to get the meeting because the reality is that everybody wants a weaker currency. The U.S. needs a weaker dollar to grow its exports. The Europeans needs a weaker euro to grow their exports. The Japanese need a weaker yen to grow their exports. Even the Swiss are intervening to prevent the Swiss franc from appreciating.”

REALITY: Economist Mark Zandi Has Said, “The Falling Dollar Has “Been Positive” And Was “A Real Boon To U.S. Businesses.” In a 2007 NPR interview, economist Mark Zandi was asked, “[H]ow is the fall of the dollar affecting the U.S. economy?” Zandi said that “on net, it’s been positive,” adding, “It’s been a real boon to U.S. business.”

Glenn Beck Targets, Woman Gets Death Threats

This is how it goes and Fox News just stands idly by… Glenn Beck targets an innocent person and that person then receives death threats. But his supporters will turn a blind eye.

On October 25, 2010, Glenn Beck went after Kathy Tate-Bradish, who moderated an Illinois congressional debate with League of Women Voters Illinois Executive Director Jan Czarnik. Apparently Tate-Brandish declined a supposedly pre-planned request for the pledge of allegiance from a supporter of the Republican candidate. Czarnik later called the request “phony patriotism.”

But, Beck lashed out against Tate-Brandish in typical hate-fueled fashion with the following:

BECK: We wanted to look at the moderator, Kathy Tate-Bradish, from the League of Women Voters… Oh, she sounds so neutral and everything. I mean, she’s even neutral on the Pledge, apparently — just a typical woman voter trying to get the truth out. No, not so much — not so much.

She is on fire for Obama. She is a big-time Obama supporter. In fact, so much so, she’s part of his Organizing for America arm. Hmm. She’s even hosted a campaign event in her home in 2007, part of her post on OFA’s, Organizing for America Web site, “Hope Action Change.”

Tate-Brandish started receiving threats of violence soon thereafter.

Since then, death threats have appeared on “right-wing websites,” said Czarnik, who provided printouts to the FBI. She also reported menacing posts on Fox News Channel’s Facebook page and Beck’s website, The Blaze.

“We don’t say the Pledge of Allegiance at our events and we should be shot or hanged?” said Czarnik, who went to the FBI on Wednesday. “Who are these people?”

Joel Cheatwood, an executive who oversees Beck’s show, issued a statement after Fox News was contacted Thursday.

“We’re not going to comment on something that’s hypothetical as we have not heard about this complaint,” Cheatwood said.

If Beck were the student of history he wants his flock to believe, he would be giving a lesson on the Bellamy Salute and the how the current Pledge of Allegiance came to be. Perhaps he’s not the Nazi-hating, fascist-fearing goon he acts like… Would he still be up-in-arms if the attendees were forced to recite the pledge against their own free will?

How many times does this have to happen before Fox News does the responsible thing?

Attempted Cop Killer is Glenn Beck Fan

In the early morning hours of July 19, 2010, 45-year-old ex-felon Byron Williams allegedly became an attempted cop killer. California Highway Patrol officers were able to apprehend Williams after a lengthy gun fight on an Oakland, CA freeway. Only two of the ten CHP officers on scene were injured.

AFFIDAVIT: [Williams] “stated that his intention was to start a revolution by traveling to San Francisco and killing people of importance at the Tides Foundation and the ACLU.”

What does this have to do with Fox News?

Byron Williams is a devoted follower of Glenn Beck.

WILLIAMS: I would have never started watching Fox News if it wasn’t for the fact that Beck was on there. And it was the things that he did, it was the things he exposed that blew my mind.

According to Media Matters, Glenn Beck has attacked the Tides Foundation 29 times on his Fox News show.

Beck, it turned out, had attacked Tides 29 times on his Fox News show in the year-and-a-half leading up to the shooting.

Now, in exclusive interviews and written correspondence with journalist John Hamilton, Williams speaks for himself. He asks Hamilton to be his “media advocate” and repeatedly instructs him to watch specific broadcasts of Beck’s show for information on the conspiracy theory that drove him over the edge: an intricate plot involving Barack Obama, philanthropist George Soros, a Brazilian oil company, and the BP disaster.

Williams also points to other media figures — right-wing propagandist David Horowitz, and Internet conspiracist and repeated Fox News guest Alex Jones — as key sources of information to inspire his “revolution.”

In a separate exchange with Examiner.com’s Ed Walsh, Williams sought to defend Beck from “Obama and the liberals,” whom he said are afraid of Beck “because he often exposes things that are simply forbidden in news.” Williams said that Beck advocates non-violence and that he had already researched the conspiracy theories that informed his alleged plot — before seeing them “confirm[ed]” on Beck’s show.

In an interview at the Santa Rita Jail, Williams confirms his affinity for Beck and references, on numerous occasions, Beck’s conspiracy theory involving the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and connections to President Obama and George Soros.

WILLIAMS: I don’t think he’s a natural newscaster, you know what I mean? I look at it more like a schoolteacher on TV, you know? He’s got that big chalkboard and those little stickers, the decals. I like the way he does it.

Williams refers to those connected to this conspiracy theory (Obama, Soros, Petrobras, etc.) as Crime, Inc. So did Beck on June 21, 2010, in one of the videos Willaims repeatedly referenced.

You can get mad at Beck. You can protest and try to prevent him from stepping on Dr. King’s honor for one day. The reality is that the next day — and five days-a-week from there on out — Beck will be back on Fox News, speaking to millions and spreading hate, lies, and fear, as he does every week.

The real problem is Fox News. Fox News gives Beck his platform, and Fox promotes his events — all despite Beck losing virtually all of his major advertisers in the last year.

Fox’s rhetoric is not just divisive; it’s dangerous. Last month, a heavily armed man got into a gun fight with police after he was pulled over on his way to kill people at the Tides Foundation⁴ — a non-profit that was little known until Glenn Beck repeatedly demonized it, claiming it to be the center of a great conspiracy.⁵ Last year, Kansas doctor George Tiller was gunned down while at church⁶ after Bill O’Reilly called him a Nazi, a “baby killer,” and warned of “Judgment Day.”⁷

Rupert Murdoch Ignorant, or Dishonest, About Lost Sponsors?

Is Rupert Murdoch simply unaware of what happens in his own company, or is he lying through his teeth? Or, both? Here’s a brief conversation where he, apparently, shows how completely out-of-touch he is with the loss of revenue Glenn Beck has caused (or how out-of-touch the viewers are who believe his reasoning).

SPOCKO: I know that you don’t break out revenue numbers for Fox News beyond the top line, but with 81 advertisers leaving the Glenn Beck show following the Color of Change action, the show now seems limited to in house ads and gold ads. Do you have a time frame for how long Fox will subsidize the show until it to starts to generate revenue in line with its ratings?

That’s pretty straight forward – without sponsors, the money to support the show has to come from somewhere. Right? Not according to the factually-challenged CEO of News Corp.

MURDOCH: It’s not subsidizing the show at all. And it’s giving a terrific kick off to the whole evening schedule. It has plenty of advertising, and those advertisers you talk about, I don’t think there is anything like that number, but if there were they are on other shows.

Thankfully, some media outlets picked up on this and Keith Olbermann even used Murdoch’s response in his Worst Persons segment. Unfortunately, it doesn’t change anything – Fox News and the News Corp. CEO will continue to simply deny facts and their followers will continue to eat up the BS.
