Glenn Beck False Claim About White House Press Questions

Here is Glenn Beck, once again, proving his fans wrong about finding the truth on Fox News…

BECK: I know [Fox News White House correspondent] Major Garrett doesn’t ask the questions at the White House, because he’s never called on. Hmmm. I wonder why.

Actually, Beck, Garrett has been called on at every press briefing Gibbs held in August and one the same day Beck made the false claim above (Aug 3, 4, 6, 7, 12). Also, Obama called on Garrett several times (Feb 9, March 24, April 4, June 23). Oops…

Response Received From State Farm

Visitor submitted response from State Farm:

From: Jairon L Wills jairon.l.wills.b92k@statefarm.com
Sent: Wednesday, August 12, 2009 12:59 PM
Subject: Comments/Suggestions/Unauthenticated

Thank you for your recent e-mail concerning State Farm’s advertising on the Fox network.

We have a policy of not advertising on political or opinion programming.  We have corrected this issue and have taken steps to make sure it does not happen again.

Understanding our millions of customers and thousands of associates hold a full spectrum of views on political issues, State Farm has a long-standing practice of not advertising in political discussion programming regardless of a program’s political point of view.

Because of the recent situation, State Farm is now evaluating its commercial placement practices to ensure its political issues advertising guidelines are maintained.

Thank you for your e-mail and your continued support of State Farm Insurance, both are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Jairon L. Wills
Executive Customer Service Supervisor
State Farm Insurance

This is, in my opinion, an above average response, though it does not say whether they have removed their ads from Fox News Channel, or just political shows.

ConAgra, Roche, Sanofi-Aventis and RadioShack Pull Advertisements from Fox News Channel’s Glenn Beck

Latest Group of Advertisers Joins Growing List of Companies Distancing Themselves from FNC Anchor

OAKLAND, Calif.—ColorOfChange.org this week received confirmation from four more companies – ConAgra (maker of Healthy Choice products), Roche, Sanofi-Aventis, and RadioShack – pledging to pull their ads from Fox News Channel’s Glenn Beck show. These new defections come on the heels of reports that Men’s Wearhouse, State Farm and Sargento also pulled their ads in recent days. They join LexisNexis-owned Lawyers.com, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance, SC Johnson and GEICO, who all pulled their ads from Glenn Beck after the news host called President Obama a “racist” who “has a deep-seated hatred for white people,” on “Fox and Friends.”

“…Upon review of this particular program, we have discontinued our advertising for all ConAgra Foods products during its airing,” said Stephanie Childs, spokesperson for ConAgra Foods, in an email to ColorOfChange.org. “We share your commitment to diversity in all areas of life and appreciate you sharing your concerns with us.”

“We have specified that our ads will no longer run on Mr. Beck’s show,” said Sean Connor, Manager of Media Services and Purchasing for Sanofi-Aventis, in an e-mail to ColorOfChange.org. “We have included this show on a list of programming that should not be utilized within the Fox network buys. Thank you for drawing our attention to this matter.”

Response Received From Men’s Wearhouse

Visitor submitted response from Men’s Wearhouse:

From: Stringer, Matthew (MS38) <MS38@tmw.com>
Subject: RE: Our Company
Date: Tuesday, August 11, 2009, 8:31 PM

Thank you for contacting Men’s Wearhouse and bringing to our attention  your concerns with Fox News. While we support free speech and do not make advertising decisions based on our own personal ideologies, after reviewing Glenn Beck’s recent incendiary comments we have decided  to remove our advertising from his program. We hope that this decision will allow you to continue to patronize Men’s Wearhouse. I would encourage you to please share our decision with anyone else who may have expressed a similar concern.

Sincerely,
Matt Stringer

This is a great response, but, again, it looks like it’s just for Glenn Beck’s show & not FNC in its entirety. Hopefully, if we keep the pressure on, that can happen. Here is their contact information:

Response Received from United Parcel Service (UPS)

Visitor submitted response from UPS:

From: customer.service@ups.com [mailto:customer.service@ups.com]
Sent: Tuesday, August 11, 2009 4:19 AM
Subject: General / General

Thank you for your e-mail regarding our recent advertising on Fox. We value your input and take your comments very seriously.

UPS is very sensitive to the type of television programming with which we associate our messaging. While our advertising schedules are purchased months in advance, we work with our agencies to monitor programming for offensive, inappropriate or controversial content as our schedules run. We do not, however, always have complete visibility into which programs will be promoted in purchased shows.

Occasionally, our advertising ends up near polarizing content. If we find that this becomes a consistent pattern, we will re-evaluate our commitment to particular programs or networks.

Please contact us if you need any additional assistance.

Shelly L.
UPS Customer Service

I hope they do reevaluate their decision to advertise on Fox News; however, that is not much of a response… Keep the pressure on. Here is their contact information:

From: Ask_Us@sargento.com

We deeply appreciate your reaching out to us and sharing your comments and concerns about Sargento ads appearing during “The Glenn Beck Show.” We sat down with the marketing department to talk about it and I learned that we buy time periods not specific programs. But in any event, they’ve made the decision to exclude that program from our future ad rotation. Simply stated, Sargento ads won’t be airing during that show. Again, thanks for contacting us.

GEICO Pulls Ads from Glenn Beck’s Fox News Show

In addition to Lawyers.com (owned by LexisNexis), Procter & Gamble and Progressive Insurance, SC Johnson and GEICO have decided to distance themselves from the fear monger, Glenn Beck.

On Tuesday, August 4, GEICO instructed its ad buying service to redistribute its inventory of rotational spots on FOX-TV to their other network programs, exclusive of the Glenn Beck program,” said a spokesperson for GEICO Corporate Communications in an email to ColorOfChange.org.  “As of August 4, GEICO no longer runs any paid advertising spots during Mr. Beck’s program.

This response is due to a mass emailing effort arranged by ColorOfChange members. 75,000 members have taken part so far. If you wish to be included, click here.

Democrats.com Joins With FNB In Fox News Boycott

On July 24, 2007 Democrats.com prompted a boycott of Fox News, calling it “the propaganda arm of the Republican party, willing to twist facts and even lie to promote the Republican agenda.” Their boycott page has been updated to include background information such as Glenn Beck agreeing with guest that wants the U.S. attacked by terrorists againGlenn Beck calling President Obama a racist and, most recently, Glenn Beck joking about poisoning Nancy Pelosi.

As of August 9, 2009, Democrats.com now includes the following statement:

We join with FoxNewsBoycott and other groups in this boycott. Read the latest update from wikoogle, which includes advertiser phone numbers if you’d like to call: 8/9/09

It’s Patriotic Duty To Stop Glenn Beck, According to Beck

On August 3, 2009 Glenn Beck stated, “[i]f anyone thinks that it would be a good idea to turn violent, think again,” adding that “[i]f you ever hear someone thinking about or talking about turning violent, it is your patriotic duty to stop them.”

On August 6, 2009 Glenn Beck joked about putting poison in Nancy Pelosi’s wine (see transcript below) and video here.

So, when is Fox News going to stop Glenn Beck? It is, after all, their patriotic duty, and Glenn Beck agrees.

BECK: So, Speaker Pelosi, I just wanted to — you gonna drink your wine? Are you blind? Do those eyes not work? There you — I want you to drink it now. Drink it. Drink it. Drink it.

I really just wanted to thank you for having me over here to wine country. You know, to be invited, I thought I had to be a major Democratic donor or a longtime friend of yours, which I’m not.

By the way, I put poison in your — no, I — I look forward to all the policy discussions that we’re supposed to have — you know, on health care, energy reform, and the economy.

Hey, is that Sean Penn over there? I know it cost me more than $30,000 to get in here, but hey. Hey, I think I see Ed Markey, the author of cap and trade, right over there.

Glenn Beck Jokes About Poisoning Nancy Pelosi

After Rachel Maddow talks about Rush Limbaugh making a baseless comparison of President Obama to Nazism, she shows a clip of a Glenn Beck skit where he offers Speaker Pelosi some wine, poisoned… When did murder and assassination become stuff jokes are made of in the media? I suspect the Secret Service has taken an interest in this atrocious behavior.

Glenn Beck’s Sponsors React Over Racism Comments

Glenn Beck went on a tirade against President Obama, calling him a racist. Several public figures and web sites, including ColorOfChange.org and FoxNewsBoycott.com, call for a boycott of  Glenn Beck’s sponsors.

Over  45,000 ColorOfChange.org members called on advertisers to pull their ads from Glenn Beck’s show. LexisNexis-owned Lawyers.com, Procter & Gamble and Progressive Insurance listened. This is what they had to say:

LEXISNEXIS: Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We have suspended further advertising during Mr. Beck’s program. We have no plans to continue advertising on Mr. Beck’s show.

PROCTER & GAMBLE: No P&G ads should have appeared on this program in the first place. To be clear, if any of our advertising appeared on the Glenn Beck show, it was in error and we appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention.  We will do what we can to see that it doesn’t happen again.

PROGRESSIVE: Our (advertising) order specifies no Glenn Beck. We have confirmed with the network that our spots should not be running there.

Juan Williams Takes Shot at Fox Colleague Glenn Beck

Fox News’ Juan Williams was on C-Span, commenting on divisiveness at Fox News, including the topic of racism. When asked about Glenn Beck calling President Obama racist, Williams had this to say:

WILLAMS: I’m just stunned by it. I don’t understand it. I think in that situation, people are just saying things to stir the pot or to create an audience for themselves, because I don’t see it. There’s no reality to that. [...]

So, I think a lot of that is simple grandstanding, making outrageous statements, provocateur Glenn Beck at his best. But I don’t think there’s any reality to it. There’s a big difference between a personality show and a news show. And that’s a personality-driven presentation.

Williams also stated that “Barack Obama never behaved in any such way that would make you think that he espoused or believed or held to his heart some racist attitudes.”
