Fox & Friends Takes Aim at Dept of Education and… SpongeBob?

On July 20, the Department of Education hosted an event called “Let’s Read! Let’s Move!” Children were given a choice of books to take home, one of which featured the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants… Fox & Friends jumped on this, spouting nonsense and falsehoods, also playing a clip of video from a SpongeBob cartoon that they said was aired at the event – The cartoon features the character Mr. Krabs saying, “Thanks to global warming, the temperature will soon go through the roof, and we’ll have an endless summer.”

CARLSON: “SpongeBob is talking a lot about global warming, and he’s only looking at it from one point of view”

CARLSON: “The government agency showed kids this cartoon and handed out books that blame man for global warming, but they did not tell kids that that is actually a disputed fact. Oops.”

DOOCY: “Clearly Nickelodeon is pushing a global warming agenda, and while there’s no disputing the fact that the earth is getting a little warmer, the big question is, is it man made, or is it just one of those gigantic climactic phases that we’re going [through]? … For a while we’re cold and then we get warmer and then we get colder and warmer, which one is it? There’s science on both sides. There are a lot of scientists who say, ‘It’s this,’ others say, ‘It’s that.’”

Apparently it wasn’t the Department of Education, but rather corporate sponsors like Target, Nickelodeon and United Way who provided the books. and, according to Tim Tuten at the Department of Education, there were no SpongeBob videos played at the event.

“We’ve never shown any videos ever, so I have no idea where that is coming from,” he said. Tuten added that participants were permitted to choose one of dozens of diverse books to take home with them and the SpongeBob book was one of those options.

Fox & Friends Falsely Claim Palin’s Book Tour Compared to Terrorists

Organizing for America director Mitch Stewart has come under attack by the trio from Fox & Friends over a comparison they made involving Sarah Palin and terrorists.

Here is their discussion (emphasis added):

DOOCY: All right, meanwhile, as we talk about those Gitmo guys, you know who’s really dangerous? Is it Khalid Shaikh Mohammed? Is it –

KILMEADE: Major Hasan?

DOOCY: — any of those guys? No. There’s an organization out there called Organizing for America, which is Barack Obama’s online group. And one of the guys in charge of that is saying that something that is really dangerous is the Sarah Palin book tour.

CARLSON: Well, apparently, because they are trying to create, you know, a firestorm again. She’s an easy target, and so now she could be more dangerous than any terrorist out there. In the meantime, there’s all that confusion, too. You remember that other book was coming out at the exact same time that looked just like her book, except it’s called Going Rouge? There it is. You know, it’s very confusing. It looks very similar, so apparently some people are being confused by the two books.

KILMEADE: Harper Collins has taken out money to put out ads together so people know how to order the right book. But I’ll tell you one thing. This is why I think, tactically and politically, they should fear Sarah Palin. This book sale –

DOOCY: Absolutely.

KILMEADE: — and her popularity are so much bigger than even her supporters could imagine.

DOOCY: Right. And so it’s a little payback from Harper Collins, because they didn’t like the idea that, rather than Going Rogue, there was this Going Rouge book out. So people who type in Going Rouge will actually be redirected to buy the actual book. And that organizing group from the Barack Obama organization, what they’re doing is they’re trying to raise half a million dollars to, quote, “push back against Sarah Palin and her allies.” Push back.

Here’s the email sent by Stewart that references Palin & her book tour:

Note that the email does not contain any reference to terrorists, or terrorism, whatsoever. That is all a figment of the Fox & Friends collective imagination.

Fox News Promotes Rep. Bachmann’s Anti-Health Care Reform Protest

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) is busy promoting her own anti-health care reform protest and Fox News is there to serve… as they did with the Tea Party protests, Town Hall disruptions and the 9/12 protest. But when it came to gay rights, FNC was nowhere to be seen.

Of course, The Fox Nation had to get in on the fun:

Fox & Friends host Gretchen Carlson was more than happy to help her former nanny promote her event.

GRETCHEN CARLSON: “They can go to FoxandFriends.com; we’ll link it to your website.”

Here’s Sean Hannity doing his part to promote the event:

HANNITY: So you’re organizing and asking people to come meet you on the steps of the Capitol on Thursday –

BACHMANN: Yes.

HANNITY: — and you are asking them –

BACHMANN: At high noon.

HANNITY: — to walk through the halls of Congress and try and voice your opinion. And so, if people want to participate, they’re going to be there Thursday at noon.

BACHMANN: Thursday at noon. You can go to MicheleBachmann.com for more information.

HANNITY: All right.

BACHMANN: And we can walk together through Cannon, Longworth, Rayburn, walk through the Capitol, sit in the gallery –

HANNITY: Maybe I’ll have to show up and observe this so our cameras can see democracy in action. But, Congresswoman, we’re going to continue to follow it.

You didn’t think Glenn Beck would pass up some protest promotion (gay rights aside), did you?

BECK: Michele, God bless you. We’ll get the word out and let’s have you on a little bit later on this week and we’ll continue to have you make the pitch for people going to Washington, D.C., noon this Thursday, and look them in the whites of their eyes.

Rep. Michele Bachmann Was Gretchen Carlson’s Nanny

Last month, George Will revealed that Fox & Friends host Gretchen Carlson‘s former babysitter is Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN).

When [Bachmann] was a teenager in Anoka, Minn., she was a nanny for a young girl named Gretchen Carlson. Today, Carlson, a Stanford honors graduate who studied at Oxford, is a host of “Fox & Friends,” the morning show on — wouldn’t you know — Fox News Channel. See how far ahead the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy plans?

The two reunited on Fox & Friends to discuss and promote Bachmann’s anti-health care reform protest. Bachmann is known for her “colorful” use of words to incite fear, such as calling health care reform the “crown jewel of socialism” and the vote being the “Super Bowl of freedom.” And there was the lovely, “look at the whites of their eyes of their members of Congress and say, ‘don’t you remember? I told you don’t take away my health care.” Of course, we all know the saying that you are to see the “whites of their eyes” before shooting an enemy. Naturally, Bachmann’s rhetoric went unchallenged on FNC.

Fox News Attacks Color Of Change Co-Founder Van Jones

Color Of Change, an organization effectively pushing sponsors away from Glenn Beck’s show for the inflammatory comments he made about President Obama, was co-founded by Van Jones. Fox News’ Glenn Beck and Fox & Friends hosts have now gone on the attack against Van Jones, who has had nothing to do with the boycott. Jones is now a White House environmental advisor who is working toward clean energy incentives and creating 21st century jobs.

Gretchen Carlson teased the upcoming segment with Glenn Beck by mentioning Van Jones having “ties to a terrorist.” This claim was never backed up, revisited, nor its source cited.

BECK: [Jones is] basically a community organizer inside the framework of our republic. That’s what’s happening. When Barack Obama said, “I am going to promise you fundamental transformation of our nation,” this is what’s happening. We are bringing community organizations and community organizers and we’re embedding them inside of the system to build a new framework. This guy in particular, and he’s not the only one, and you’ll see more tonight, this guy in particular is an avowed communist, communist!

Regardless of Van Jones’ views, he has not been with Color Of Change for two years and had nothing to do with the boycott against Glenn Beck’s advertisers. “Glenn Beck is trying to change the subject,” said James Rucker, executive director of Color of Change, “The issue is his baseless fear mongering.”

Fox News Backtracks on ‘Death Panel’ Claims?

As the “death panel” claims are debunked time and time again, Fox News may be backtracking and using terms like “De Facto Death Panels.”

BECK: The death panel isn’t a firing squad. Sarah Palin made a point — I guess you could say in an inflammatory way. But when you implement a government health system, as they have found out in the U.K. and everywhere else on the planet, you are left with no other choice. That’s just the way it is. Rationing is inevitable, and they know it. When — when will someone in the media expose all of the lies?

BECK: Anyway, tell me about — am I wrong in saying, without any inflammatory speech here — don’t call them death panels, just let’s call them what they are. You have a certain amount of money and a certain amount of people. You can’t — they don’t — you can’t give everything to everybody. Isn’t it inevitable that you have to make tough choices?

Gretchen Carlson Gets Cash For Clunker Stat Wrong

Fox & Friends host Gretchen Carlson claimed to have performed some “crack research” about the Cash for Clunkers program, but you’d have to be smoking crack to believe it…

CARLSON: By the way, I did my own crack research yesterday, spent a tremendous amount of time on this yesterday finding out information. In my home state of Minnesota, so far only two of these deals have actually been approved –

DOOCY: That’s all?

CARLSON: — by the government.

DOOCY: Wow.

CARLSON: Two in the entire state of Minnesota. And then you wonder about whether or not these dealers feel like they’re going to get their money from the government. Not so sure.

It’s not as if she misspoke and then corrected herself. She actually believes she’s right. The fact of the matter is Minnesota Automobile Dealers Association’s study shows that out of the 7,500 submissions, the government has approved 2 percent, which would be 150. And only 8 percent have been rejected.

Mike Huckabee Needs a Bush History Lesson

Gretchen Carlson, host of Fox & Friends, asked Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR) about some remarks made by Vice President Biden about the economy. Huckabee wasted no time in making the false claim that George W. Bush did not play the blame game about what he inherited from Bill Clinton.

HUCKABEE: There’s one thing though that Biden and President Obama have got to get under control. And that is quit blaming George Bush. George Bush inherited an economy when he became president back in 2001 that was already beginning to show real signs of the stress from the breaking of the technology bubble. George Bush didn’t go out whining and complaining every day, he stood up like the president of the United States and he worked on trying to get it fixed.

Of course, Bush did place plenty of blame on Clinton:

“When I took office, our economy was beginning a recession.” — Bush, 8/7/02

“The president inherited a Clinton recession and turned it into the early stages of Bush prosperity.” — Secretary of Commerce Don Evans, 9/2/04

“In terms of the economy, look, I inherited a recession, I am ending on a recession.” — Bush, 1/12/09

Now you’ve gone and done it… I blame everyone who gave Carrie Prejean more than her 15 minutes of fame (Fox News). She wil be guest hosting Fox & Friends for one day, suppposedly, on May 27 and will be filling in for Gretchen Carlson. On the bright side, that will be one day without Gretchen Carlson.

Bill O’Reilly Thinks Gay Marriage = Marrying a Turtle

Fox News analyst Margaret Hoover argued against Bill O’Reilly‘s claims that gay marriage will lead to interspecies marriage, but that doesn’t stop O’Reilly from making such insane claims. He’s suggested that legalized gay marriage will open the door for people to marry goats, ducks, dolphins and now turtles…

“[Y]ou would let everybody get married who want to get married. You want to marry a turtle, you can.”

O’Reilly also claimed, along with Fox & Friends host Gretchen Carlson, that gay marriage will lead to polygamous marriage, which Fox News personalies are calling “triads.” The whole basis of their argument is based on a slipery slope – if one thing happens, then another, etc. It’s a flawed illogical argument, at best.
