Fox & Friends Edits Jon Stewart’s Criticism of Fox News

Jon Stewart appeared on The O’Reilly Factor to debate Bill O’Reilly about the singer Common being invited to the White House… Fox and Friends aired heavily edited footage of the debate video, from which Jon Stewart’s criticism of Fox News was removed.

Here’s the video from Fox and Friends:

Here’s what’s missing:

STEWART: There is a selective outrage machine here at Fox that petty fogs only when it suits the narrative that suits them. This guy is in the crosshairs in a way that he shouldn’t be, whether you agree with him or not over — you may think he is ignorant in believing that Assata Shakur is innocent. You may think he is ignorant in believing that Mumia is. But then guess what? Bono can’t go to the White House. Springsteen can’t go to the White House. Bob Dylan can’t go to the White House. You have got a lot of people that aren’t allowed to sit in the White House because they have written songs about people convicted of murder.

[...]

O’REILLY: You say that because Bono, Springsteen, and Bob Dylan wrote songs defending people who were accused of heinous things that I have to give Common a pass because he did the same thing.

STEWART: No. You have to be consistent with your outrage.

O’REILLY: All right. Let me give you -

STEWART: Be consistent.

O’REILLY: I will. Common visited, went to see.

STEWART: So what if Bono went to see Leonard Peltier?

O’REILLY: All right? In Cuba, and said – and said, quote –

STEWART: So now that’s your line? You are putting yourself in a smaller and smaller box.

O’REILLY: No, I’m not. I’m not.

STEWART: So this guy is worthy of it because he actually visited. And, by the way, I don’t agree with you that that’s what puts it over the top. I completely disagree with you.

O’REILLY: This makes it beyond a reasonable doubt.

STEWART: Oh, please.

O’REILLY: Oh, come on. You know this guy is sympathizing with two cop killers. You know that.

STEWART: I don’t know him. He believes they were unjustly convicted. That’s what I imagine this is.

Fox News Commentator Agrees With Jon Stewart’s Criticism

Comedy Central’s host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart, frequently roasts Fox News and their personalities, such as Bill O’Reilly. This week, on The O’Reilly Factor, Fox News commentator Bernie Goldberg agreed with Stewart’s statements about Fox News’ hosts using generalizations in reference to liberals. Last week Stewart brought up Fox News’ hypocrisy and told the network to “go f–k yourselves.”

O’REILLY: Does Stewart have a point here?” Bill O’Reilly asked. “Are we being hypocritical by generalizing about some people?

GOLDBERG: I’ll just speak about me. He does. I am pleading guilty. And that’s a sincere plea of guilty. I said that liberals think people who live in the middle of the country are a bunch of jerks, and obviously all liberals don’t think that. But I will tell you what, an awful lot of liberal elites think that. I worked with these liberal elites for 28 years at CBS News, and they were always throwing around the term white trash, by which they meant poor southerners who didn’t go to Harvard. I’m not sure why that makes them trash. As far as the middle of the country is concerned, you know, this was flyover country where people flew the flag on the Fourth of July and went bowling and ate at Red Lobster. You know, they were a bunch of hicks. But even all liberal elites don’t think that. So I am saying I was wrong, Jon Stewart is right.

Of course, Goldberg went on a rant about Stewart and even compared him to “a safe Jay Leno with a much smaller audience.”

Sean Hannity Caught Using 9/12 Video to Inflate Bachmann Rally #s

The Daily Show host Jon Stewart slams Sean Hannity for trying to dupe his viewers by showing footage of the crowds from the 9/12 Project event in Washington DC and saying it was from Rep. Michele Bachmann’s (R-MN) anti-health care reform protest. First, 9/12 supporters use attendance numbers from Obama’s Inauguration to inflate their own attendance, and now they’re using the actual 9/12 footage to inflate the numbers of the latest event.

Update: Sean Hannity has apologized. Did I just see something porcine go past my window?

HANNITY: Now on his program last night he mentioned that we had played some incorrect video on this program last week while talking about the Republican health care rally on Capitol Hill. He was correct. We screwed up. We aired some video of a rally in September, along with the video from the actual event. It was an inadvertent mistake, but a mistake nonetheless. So Mr. Stewart, you were right. We apologize. But by the way, I wanna thank you and all your writers for watching.

Translation: We inadvertently got caught.

Notice how he only apologized to Stewart? Where is the apology to his viewers? Perhaps his fans don’t expect one, because he is simply mirroring their own preconceived notions, right or wrong.

Jon Stewart Schools Sean Hannity on History & Food Chain

Sean Hannity, in California, spoke about the drought conditions for farmers and demanded that President Obama and the government stop meddling and provide more water for irrigation. Jon Stewart points out that it was the government who first brought the irrigation to the farmers, so without the government’s meddling, they’d be farming dirt… Then, of course, there’s the lesson involving the food chain, a lesson Hannity must have missed in grade school.
