Glenn Beck’s Mao Conspiracy Theory Includes Fox & Murdoch

“Who are our enemies? Who are our friends? This is a question of the first importance for the revolution.” -Mao Zedong

It’s one thing to attack the President of the United States and other news outlets, made fun of a woman’s miscarriage, etc. But, will the $#!* hit the fan now that Glenn Beck has essentially called Fox, News Corp and Rupert Murdoch Maoists? Beck has lost sponsors, put the network’s revenue in jeopardy and now includes the CEO of the company he works for in his attacks. Genius!

BECK: When you’re watching TV this week, you might notice a common theme on some of your favorite TV shows — service and volunteerism. You might think if you’re an average viewer, “Gee, that’s a coincidence. Look at how much it’s popping up.”

[...]

Well, this is fantastic. It’s almost like we’re living in Mao’s China right now. But Mitch Metcalf, an EIF board member and NBC executive — my God, it can’t be. Come on, Anita, call me. Lookit, Chairman Mao is right there ready to take your phone call. Go ahead. Call me on that one.

Beck may be eating those words. In attacking NBC et al. for being connected to the Entertainment Industry Foundation, he has inadvertently attacked Fox Broadcasting Co., owned by News Corp., who also owns Fox News Channel. They are also participating in EIF’s volunteer initiative. Furthermore, Rupert Murdoch sits on EIF’s “honorary board of governors.” Oops.

Glenn Beck Crops Anita Dunn Quote in Attack

Glenn Beck, in an attempt to take down White House communications director, Anita Dunn, who has been critical of Fox News recently, has resorted to cropping quotes from Dunn… Below are quotes from Beck and the original, unedited, quote from Dunn.

BECK’S EDITED CLIP: “Two of my favorite political philosophers, Mao Zedong and Mother Teresa — not often coupled with each together, but the two people that I turn to most.”

BECK: OK, “not often coupled with one another” — laughter — “but the two people I turn to most.”

[...]

BECK: I don’t think Mao should be anybody’s favorite anything, especially not your favorite political philosopher or one that you turn to most

Now the full quote, which shows quite a different message when it’s not cropped…

DUNN’S FULL QUOTE: “And then the third lesson and tip actually come from two of my favorite political philosophers, Mao Zedong and Mother Teresa — not often coupled with each together, but the two people that I turn to most to basically deliver a simple point, which is, you’re going to make choices. You’re going to challenge. You’re going to say, “Why not?” You’re going to figure out how to do things that have never been done before. But here’s the deal: These are your choices. They are no one else’s.” [emphasis added].

Dunn later stated that “the phrase ‘favorite political philosophers’ was intended as irony.” Regardless, the message that Dunn was giving to a graduating high school class was clear. “These are your choices. They are no one else’s.”

Food for thought: Did Glenn Beck go after George W. Bush for recommending that Karl Rove read a Mao biography?

O’Reilly Tries To Rewrite Nixon History

Discussing the Obama/Chavez handshake with Alan Colmes, Bill O’Reilly attempts to rewrite history concerning Nixon meeting and shaking hands with Mao Zedong.

COLMES: Well, first of all, this shows — first of all, what do you, ignore the guy? When George W. Bush was at the UN and asked, “Will you ever — will you talk to Ahmadinejad if you’re in the same room?” “No, I won’t talk to him” — like a 5-year-old. What do you, ignore somebody standing right next to you? Do we — because he touched him, put his hand on his shoulder, shook his hand? Do these people have a problem with Mao and Nixon? And of course, you worked for Richard Nixon. I mean, Nixon goes to China, do you have a problem with –
O’REILLY: It was Zhou and Nixon. Mao was not involved.
COLMES: There was –
O’REILLY: Yeah, Zhou.
COLMES: Did you have a problem with looking into Putin’s eyes and seeing his soul? Did you have a problem with any of the other –
O’REILLY: All right, but — OK, all of those are valid points, as long as you realize it was Zhou Enlai, not Mao Zedong.

As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words…
