Sean Hannity Makes Comments, Church Receives Threats

President Obama and family visited Shiloh Baptist Church in the District for Easter Sunday services. FNC’s Sean Hannity aired a clip of Rev. Wallace Charles Smith giving a speech where he denounced hate speech in talk radio. Hannity proceeded to compare Rev. Smith to Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s former pastor and questioning Obama’s connection to each. Since then, Rev. Smith’s church began receiving threats…

The Rev. Wallace Charles Smith said the church has received more than 100 threats since Fox News channel’s Sean Hannity aired a tape Monday of a speech Smith gave in January 2010 at Eastern University in Saint Davids, Pa.

“We received a fax that had the image of a monkey with a target across is face,” Smith said. “My secretary has received telephone calls that have been so vulgar until she has had to hang up.”

Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton have all worshipped at Shiloh Baptist Church.

Anderson Cooper Calls out Sean Hannity

Fox News host Sean Hannity aired a special on “liberal media bias” that CNN’s Anderson Cooper claims was edited in a “completely misleading way.”

In the clip from Hannity’s show, Cooper is shown calling the attacks on Joseph Wilson, the former Bush administration ambassador who set off the Valerie Plame scandal, “a victim of a Bush administration smear campaign.” However, as Cooper showed, the clip had begun in the middle of a sentence. Cooper was actually saying that Wilson was claiming to be a victim of a smear campaign, not stating his own personal opinion.

“I try to choose my words very carefully and I don’t like it when someone cuts around them to make it seem like I’m saying something I’m not,” he said, adding that he hoped Hannity did not “knowingly, falsely edit something to make a point. After all, that would be biased.”

Sean Hannity Repeats Myth About Elana Kagen and Military Recruiters at Harvard

Sean Hannity, jumps on the Anti-Kagan bandwagon and does his part to further a myth about Kagan banning military recruiters from the Harvard campus during her tenure as dean of Harvard Law School.

HANNITY: The White House actually released their own video of Elena Kagan, their choice for — the president’s choice for the Supreme Court. Her most notable act, of course, is throwing military recruiters on college campus at Harvard, you know, off the college campus in the middle of a war in violation of federal law. And even the most liberal members of the Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision, said she didn’t have the right to do that.

Not so fast, Sean…

Throughout Kagan’s tenure as dean, Harvard law students had access to military recruiters — either through Harvard’s Office of Career Services or through the Harvard Law School Veterans Association.

Additionally, there was, apparently, no adverse affect.

[T]he number of graduates from each of those classes who entered the military was equal to or greater than the number who entered the military from any of Harvard’s previous five classes.

Sean Hannity, speaking with former Bush adviser Nicolle Wallace, made an absurdly ridiculous claim, which, of course, was not refuted by Wallace, nor anyone else at Fox News.

HANNITY: George Bush who you worked for did not play golf while this country was at war. He didn’t want the families of loved ones serving, well, that they may have lost the loved ones seeing him on a golf course.

WALLACE: Yes, I mean…

HANNITY: He seemed to be far more in touch.

Remember, “We must stop the terror. I call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers. Thank you. Now watch this drive.” and all the time spent in Crawford?

It’s been suggested that it wasn’t the war that made Bush cut down on his golfing, but rather doctor’s orders. Of course, two months after Bush said he quit playing golf (2003) he spent Columbus Day playing with “three long-time buddies” and also attended a golf fundraiser for John McCain in 2008. Condoleezza Rice; however, didn’t give up her game – where was Hannity to call her out-of-touch in 2008?

The National Republican Congressional Committee fundraising dinner is next month and who did they choose to deliver the keynote address? None other than Fox News‘ Sean Hannity. The reason? According to NRCC Chairman Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX), it’s Hannity’s fighting for conservative values.

Last year’s fundraising dinner was headlined by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) and a NRCC dinner last June was headlined by Newt Gingrich (replaced Sarah Palin). The NRCC has moved from Republican governors and a former House Speaker to a Fox News personality (formerly a general contractor and bartender)… Did the GOP run out of their own qualified voices?

Media Matters for America has released the following list exemplifying Fox News’ transition from a mere conservative “news” outlet to a complete right-wing political organization.

Fox News personalities set goals to “get rid” of administration officials, “take the administration down.”
Fox News led the charge against Van Jones and was widely credited for his resignation.
Fox News repeatedly and falsely accused Kevin Jennings of unlawfully failing to report “statutory rape.”
Hannity, in particular, crusaded against Jennings and has declared, “I want him fired.”
Beck repeatedly targeted NEA’s Yosi Sergant; Sergant was reassigned, then resigned.
Fox News figures advanced falsehoods about Cass Sunstein, including that he supports “forced sterilizations” and mandatory organ donations.
Fox News figures falsely claimed John Holdren supported “forced abortions” and forced sterilization.
Hannity repeatedly advanced dubious claim that Harold Koh supported the use of Sharia law in U.S. courts.

Hannity advocacy praised, seized on by Republicans.
Fox News devoted round-the-clock coverage to Gingrich’s anti-Obama advocacy.
Gingrich frequently promotes falsehoods, engages in advocacy on Fox News.

Is Sarah Palin a Cash Cow for Fox News and News Corp?

Fox News Channel is owned by News Corp, who also owns Harper Collins, the publisher of Sarah Palin’s book, Going Rogue. It’s no surprise, many Fox News personalities were lined up to interview Palin and provide free publicity for her book. Early last month she posted the following on her Facebook page (emphasis added):

We’re in the process of arranging interviews with local and national media. An interview with Oprah Winfrey is already scheduled, and I’m also hoping to have the opportunity to talk with Bill O’Reilly, Barbara Walters, Sean Hannity, Greta Van Susteren, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Dennis Miller, Tammy Bruce, and others, including local Alaska personalities Bob & Mark and Eddie Burke. (Variety is the spice of life!)

At the end of her book, Going Rogue, Sarah Palin thanks, by name, the “bold and patriotic, fair and balanced media folks” who “mak[e] the idiots’ heads spin” (emphasis added):

To some media professionals whom I admire because you don’t let anyone tell you to sit down and shut up, please keep making the idiots’ heads spin. Thanks for not taking our Freedom of the Press for granted, you bold and patriotic, fair and balanced media folks. Keep calling it like you see it: Amanda, Andrew, Ann, Bill(s), Bob, Cal, Dennis, Dick, Eddie, Fred, Glenn, Greta, Hugh, Joey, John, Jonah, Larry, Laura, Lou, Mark, Mary, Michael, Michelle, R.A.M., Rich, Rush, S.E., Sean, Tammy, Walter … and there are more. It’s a safe bet the people she’s referring to include Fox News’ Andrew Napolitano, Bill O’Reilly, Dennis Miller, Glenn Beck, Greta Van Susteren, Laura Ingraham, Michelle Malkin and Sean Hannity, in addition to Ann Coulter, Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh.

If Palin is the type of person to like having two people fight over her, she must have been thrilled when she made her promotional rounds. Apparently, there was a feud between Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity regarding who would would get to air their interview with Palin first. They both recorded their interviews on a Tuesday, but Hannity beat O’Reilly in getting it on air by a day. According to a Fox News insider, O’Reilly threw a “hissyfit” and released a teaser on YouTube. Source

Also important to note is that Greta Van Susteren hyped Palin’s book, saying, “the entire country is buzzing…” and “no one — and we mean no one — can stop talking about her.” She also criticized media who “pooh-poohed” Palin. However, Greta failed to disclose the fact that her husband, John Coale, was an adviser for Sarah Palin and is also the creator of the political action committee, SarahPAC. Source

Unless Palin enjoys sexist behavior, the love may not be universal. While she seemed to entertain the idea of a Sarah Palin / Glenn Beck ticket for the 2012 presidential election, and Beck would certainly have his lips firmly planted on her derriere, he remarked that “She’d be yapping or something, and I’d say, ‘I’m sorry, why am I hearing your voice? I’m not in the kitchen.’”
